Hello from Capt Tom E. Doran-I have recently retired from Handsome Sailor Yacht Charters, Inc.
Since I am now concentrating on sailing my yacht primarily in the S. Florida/Bahamas area,I have decided to re-name this page, Capt Tom's Sailing Adventures, so my sailing compatriots can easily find me out there. Look forward to dropping anchor next to you at Staniel Cay in the near future. Watch for my future blog!

We are so excited at how things are shaping up at Handsome Sailor for 2019. In the last month, we have accomplished so much in the restoration process of our storm damage. We are so grateful for the folks that have helped us recently in this process. The marina grounds are looking better and better. We had 7 new Pilings set in November and that totally cleared out our north corner where we had stored the piling sleeves. And in that process, we found a volunteer tomato πŸ… plant that we are getting delicious home grown vine ripe tomatoes from. We are organizing various building materials better and clearing out areas so that our slip tenants can set up work spots that they need. We have moved S V Isla, our charter boat, to a nes slip on the north dock and Tom completed a landing for the boat yesterday. We have moved boats around so that things are more efficient. With our recent great weather, we feel blessed to have so much comfortable working time, and with that, my house cleanliness at home is suffering...but it will still be there when more disagreeable returns.
After a super soft 2018, we are looking forward to a much better year in 2019 as I am sure many of our fellow small business owners are.
Blessings to all. πŸ™β€οΈπŸ€ž

We are so thankful for all the help we have received since Hurricane Harvey. We still have lots of work to do but, Isla, our charter boat will be ready for those wonderful times out on the bay waters.
Capt Tom is getting really excited about chartering and loves taking all you folks out on the boat.
Hurray!

A short update on our charter and marina...we are making progress on repairs, some small and only visible to us and some large. The docks are beginning to look so much better. The lot is a mess with still lots of haul off needed but at least most of it gathered together in piles. Most urgent issues get priority attention and that was raise the boats that sunk, repairs on the docks to make more safe for our tenants to be on when checking or working on their boats. At some point, repair of the charter boat will begin, then repairs on our personal boats, etc. will be last. Thank the good Lord...they are floating and no holes or leaks underwater. Lots of superficial repairs and a few structural repairs on our big personal boat, Coyote, but perfectly double.
You know what they say about most everything...just time and money.
God bless you all and keep all of our natural disaster folks in your prayers.

Posting here and will not read nor answer messages...no power to charge my phone unless I drive out to power. Got cell coverage yesterday afternoon.
Severe damage at the marina...all boats suffered damage from a little to on the bottom. 3 sunk and many more r low in the water. Coyote took quite a bit of damage but no leaks below water...very repairable in time. Isla also has damage but again, repairable. The lot is in total shambles, destroyed new storage building and smaller storage building. The bathroom stood beautifully. Built totally out of 2 x 6, even walls r covered by it and with a hip roof with hurricane tie downs. Fence is down again, bulkhead fence is intact due to so much air flow through it.
Docks r 50 % destroyed. High rebuild needed.
At home...shambles in the yard, water caused ceiling in bathroom to fall about 50 %...some walls got soaked also...same in the closet, broken windows, water on some furniture and wooden floor is swollen and buckling, back big storage building lost most all of the metal roofing, awning attached to back lower deck metal roof half destroyed, need new roof, wing mill down, two trees on front deck, railings destroyed, pine tree down, cottonwood tree down plus many more live oaks. Yard is a disaster of trees and tree limbs plus metal roofing, lumber, broken flower pots and so much I can't think of it all. Clothes is closet r wet as is the carpet there, cellulose insulation was all over the bathroom and half of closet. Starting on that today. No water, no power, etc.
Months of work ahead. Windstorm claim filed and appraiser on his way to us next week!
The tree devastation is unbelievable in our area and many other places. Pray for our entire Coastal Bend area and all areas that were hit r have severe flooding.
Will post again eventually.
