California State Park’s Antelope Valley Indian Museum State Historic Park (SHP) will celebrate Native American Heritage Month with exhibitions showcasing the compelling work of Indigenous artists as they display their art and share insights into their rich cultural heritage. Visitors can also purchase their artwork. 🪶 👩🏼‍🎨 🎨

On Saturday, Nov. 9, and Sunday, Nov. 10, artist Peggy Fontenot will visit and showcase her work. 🖼️ Fontenot is an award-winning Native American photographer, beadwork artist, silversmith, and activist, whose photographs document relevant social issues, including that of Native people and veterans.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, visiting artist Judy Einboden will share her gourd art and pine needle baskets. Einboden honors her mother’s Panamanian heritage by incorporating patterns from Mola textiles into her art. 🖼️ 👩🏼‍🎨

⭐️ When: Nov. 9, 10, and 16, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
💰 Cost: $3 for those 13 years and older, free for children 12 and under. With a Cali. State Pass, it can be free.

We had a wonderful time at the .indian.museum celebration 🖼️ 🪶 Antelope Valley Indian Museum State Historic Park is California’s State Regional Indian Museum representing Great Basin Indian Cultures. Museum and grounds are open Saturday-Sunday11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 🕰️

We had the opportunity to interview archaeologist/anthropologist Dr. Bruce Love. Listen as he expounds upon local native tribes of this area. He and a group of 7 Native American advisors created a map called “Tribes Without Borders”. Come learn more at the Annual American Indian Celebration on October 19th & 20th from 11AM-4PM.
This cultural event features a traditional ground blessing ceremony, American Indian traditional dancing and music, Indian artists demonstrating and selling their work, Navajo tacos, and special activities for children.

This educational and and enriching opportunity will be hosted at The Antelope Valley Indian Museum, which has been open to the public since 1932. The museum houses over 8,000 objects representing 120 American Indian tribes. The museum also sponsors periodic visiting artists, exclusive hikes, and evening events.
