My name is Debbie Serdy and I am the artist behind the independent fashion and accessories label, My Aunt Debbie, and boutique by the same name. Waaaaaaaay back in the 1980's, while I was using my college degree in Environmental Conservation to the fullest as a bartender; I started making a line of jewelry inspired by my love of pop culture and everything kitschy. When I wore my jewelry to work, (

always breaking the "no dangly jewelry" dress code), I would notice that after my customers had a few drinks they would want to buy what I was wearing. Before I knew it, I had a thriving little jewelry business while mixing up martinis.

30 years later I'm still basically doing the same thing. I could list all of the artistic achievements, and experiences I've had, and the amazing people I have had the privilege of working with,, and I am delighted to say that there have been many. But the reason I still do this boils down to a few simple things........ I like to make things that make people laugh, I like to encourage and inspire people, and I'm really not that good at doing anything else. Without them life would be so boring, Teaching them to push the envelope, and think outside of the box are some of my proudest moments. When I'm not cutting out pictures of P*e Wee Herman and Andy Warhol, you can find me haunting flea markets and thrift shops for
vintage flotsam and jetsam, unusual doodads and weird textiles. I conjure these goodies up into expressive clothing and curious accessories. I fantasize about rock stars wearing them on stage, and shy folks wearing them as they sing into their hairbrushes fantasizing about being rock stars. Yesterday I had the SO MUCH FUN putting my merchandising skillzzz to work at for my friend Pam Felpel. Pam is a vintage dealer extraordinaire, and has a business called . Pam needed a little help bringing her booth display vision to life, and I was happy to roll up my selves and get to work! After a few hours of re-imaging her space we created magic.🥳 Enjoy these before, during and after photos. This was a fun custom project I just finished. My lovely customer gave me a stack of vintage kantha quilts, and another jacket she liked, to loosely use as a pattern. It was a fun challenge to figure out the pattern, and a delight combining the colorful quilts into this comfy jacket. Bruce really appreciates a good mixture of textiles.
The pillow cover is from Transylvania, the afghan is thrifted of course, and I made the rocking chair pillow from my Nana’s vintage fabric stash. Oh and guess what?! Yesterday’s $ saving sale in my stories was so much fun,(THANK YOU!) that I’ll do another one this afternoon with some fun clothing and purses. So keep an eye out!!

It fun what you find rummaging around in the basement.
Pic #1. This was my very first My Aunt Debbie sign. Having it printed was a big deal for me. I’m taking it apart to use the wooden hanging frame for another project; because it’s fun to use what you already have. I still love a good log font😻 (this sign hung in the window at Mommalicious BTW).
Pic #2. I used the wooden frame from my old sign and some wood clamps to hang this fish printed on butcher block paper. I bought this on the streets of NYC many moons ago from an artist named Layman. He used wood from the subway to make the prints. I wonder if he’s still around?????
