Lanesboro is getting a new grocery store! Thanks to KIMT News 3 for this great story highlighting this community-driven, locally-owned and operated endeavor.

Set to open next spring, the forthcoming Lanesboro Market will be located in the Iron Horse building on the corner of Parkway Avenue and Coffee Street in downtown Lanesboro.

The owners of the new market, Cynthia and Peter Ruen, are hosting an open house during Experience the Magic of Lanesboro- November 30th, 2024 from 10am to 3pm to introduce folks to the new space and gather feedback and ideas about how the new store can best serve residents and visitors to our community.

🌟 This holiday season, Lanesboro’s Sylvan Park will be transformed into a winter wonderland with the introduction of Legion Lights, an outdoor holiday lights display designed to spread cheer and foster community spirit. From Thanksgiving through New Year’s, visitors are invited to experience the magic of the holidays in the heart of Lanesboro.

In addition to the captivating light display, Legion Lights will host a variety of special weekend events that promise fun for the whole family. Special event days will be on Saturday, November 30th and Saturday, December 14th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Festive activities will include:
🎅 Visits with Santa Claus: Bring your wish list and snap a photo with Santa as he stops by Legion Lights (stay tuned for exact times).
☕ Hot Chocolate and S'mores Stations: Cozy up by the firepit with warm treats as you take in the sparkling lights.
🎶 Caroling and Live Entertainment: Enjoy the sounds of the season with local choirs, musicians, and carolers performing throughout the weekends.

🙌 Kudos to the City of Lanesboro and Minnesota Fish & Wildlife for the completion of this fall's shoreline improvement project for the Sylvan Park Ponds!

🎣 This collaborative project has stabilized the shoreline on the two ponds in our city park and increased accessibility for people fishing on these designated trout streams in our city limits!

❄️ This quaint town becomes even more magical during the holiday season (think Hallmark movie!) with storefronts and streetlamps decorated and alit against the backdrop of the bluffs.

🔔 Ornament hunt for adults and children will begin at 12pm Noon! FREE prizes donated by participating Lanesboro Businesses.

As we head into the fi****ms deer opener today, let’s keep safety at the forefront. Whether you're in the stand, on the ground, or scouting, always remember the four basic rules of firearm safety. First, treat every firearm as if it’s loaded, even when you’re certain it isn’t. This simple mindset can prevent accidents. Second, always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Third, keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot—only place it on the trigger when you're sure of your target. Finally, always be sure of your target and what's beyond it. Take that extra moment to double-check what’s in your line of fire to avoid any unintended consequences. Let’s make this a safe and enjoyable season for all. Have you ever embarked on the Discover Sculpture Explore Lanesboro Medallion Walking Tour?

This artful experience features 20 iron medallions found throughout town, portraying different facets of the rich character of Lanesboro on each medallion. All objects and images in the medallions are from local sources- either donated personal objects, impressions of objects, or modeled objects made by workshop participants. The project began in 2001 as a partnership between Lanesboro Arts, Forecast Public Art, and the City of Lanesboro.

This free self-guided tour begins at the Lanesboro Visitor Center and journeys up Church Hill, through Sylvan Park, to the historic dam and its hidden scenic overlook, across the Root River State Trail bike bridge to the Poetry Parking Lot at Bass Pond, along the historic walking bridge, and back through the rest of downtown.

You can find maps for the tour at our visitor center or the Lanesboro Arts gallery in downtown Lanesboro! Pictures in this post are just a few of the awesome medallions you'll locate along the tour.
