Last September, the Energy Department celebrated the opening of Project Liberty (pictured) in Iowa, the first commercial scale plant to use waste from corn crops as its feedstock when producing motor fuels for vehicles. This week, our office took another step in advancing commercial scale non-food based ethanol by announcing funding for Antares Group Inc. in to enable more stable and diverse future feedstock supplies (corn stover, switchgrass, and other warm season grasses) for three cellulosic biorefineries in and while increasing environmental benefits.
