No.9 Coal Mine & Museum The oldest, longest running, continuously operated coal mine in the world! 1855-1972 A visit inside No. 9 Mine is an experience that you will never forget!

Opened in 1855, No. 9 Coal Mine, located in Lansford, Pennsylvania is the
world's oldest continuously operated anthracite coal mine! Closed in 1972, the mine was re-opened as a heritage tourism attraction in 2002. Today visitors ride safely by train 1600 feet into the mountainside, to see and experience first hand what it was like for our fathers and grandfathers to work underground over the past

200 years. Once inside the mine, experienced tour guides will lead you on a walking tour filled with amazing sights and fascinating stories! See the underground mule-way; miner’s hospital, and the 900 – foot deep original elevator shaft, which once hauled loaded coal cars to the surface!

What an awesome day we had at the No.9 Coal Mine & Museum today! We had 45 visitors join us for an in-depth tour of the operation there and special thanks to Zack and Daryl for taking the tours further back into the mine and talk about all the work going into extending the mine tour! It was once again a lot of fun to give mine motor instruction to everyone who wanted to run it. The old Greensburg 8 got a few dozen miles put on her today for sure! Thanks again to everyone that came out today to support our two great organizations we certainly had a fun time!

Greetings,
The No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum will be hosting a basket raffle on Sunday, Sept. 1st during our 17th Annual Coal Miner’s Heritage Festival and Picnic. The Panther Creek Valley Foundation, a 501C3 non-profit organization, was founded in 1990 and is dedicated to preserving the No. 9 Coal Mine site as a museum and mine tour for future generations. We are seeking item donations for the raffle. Due to the uniqueness and age of our historic site, maintenance work on our facility can be very costly. Funds collected during the raffle will be used to make much needed improvements to our museum and grounds. Your donation is highly appreciated by all that make the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum operate. Heather Frye is our representative soliciting donations for the basket raffle. Our EIN is 23-2563958. Please help us continue to preserve our regions coal mining heritage!
