4-15 is National Laundry Day! 🫧 We've compiled a few (of many) fun facts about Sohn Linen Service and her 90 year history:
Our original building, occupied from 1933-1960, was located on North Larch Street in Lansing, MI. Back then we were known as Sohn Bros. Linen Service until our name was changed in 1954 to Sohn Linen Service.
On average, we process 400,000 pounds of laundry per week (that’s over 20 MILLION pounds per year). We currently occupy two large two story buildings to accomplish the multitudes of laundry that we do – from sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding, steaming, hanging, packaging, putting the orders together, and loading the trucks, we need a lot of space 😊
Our Grand River building is 63 years young, and is still our main production facility. We expanded a bit, and added on to the building in 1976 and 1995. Most recently (in 2023) we converted much of our original garage space to additional production space (you know, to efficiently process the 20 million pounds of laundry).
We still utilize our original boiler that was put into service in 1960! Our secondary boiler was put into service in 1961, and is also still used today!
Our Wood Street location was completed in 2002 and houses our administrative office, service team, as well as production finishing and route-makeup space.
