The Rev Ms Denise Tracy has just celebrated the 50th Anniversary of her ordination. She was ordained in 1974 at the NYC General Assembly, in an all-woman ceremony sponsored by the UUWF. At the time she was the 8th woman employed in UU Ministry. She worked as a campus minister for two years before being called to this church in 1976. After Lansing, she was the first woman and the youngest person to be called as a District Executive for the UUA. After 8 years, she served as a Consultant for the Alban Institute for 17 years. She retired from UU Ministry in 2014. She preaches regularly in churches around Chicago. She served her city of Elgin, IL as a Police Chaplain for 7 years and founded the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy for the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. She now serves as a Chaplain for Condell Hospital, the only Level One Trauma Hospital in Lake County, Illinois. Her book, “WomanSpirit: The Rise of Feminism and The Empowerment of Women in Liberal Religion” was just published last month. She has been married to Bill Decker for 42 years and they have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. She is delighted to return to this beloved congregation.
