The State Fair of Texas will be held in Dallas from September 27th to October 20th. It is the largest and one of the most famous state fairs in the country. You can enjoy agricultural exhibits, carnival rides, live entertainment, and many delicious fried foods.

Patriot Day is on September 11th. Federally recognized as Patriot Day or National Day of Service throughout the United States, many places in Texas honor the victims of the September 11th attacks. Many will come together on this day and volunteer for events throughout the state.

It’s almost the end of peach season. Texas peaches are a sweet and delectable fruit that’s ripe for the picking. Peaches are grown all throughout Texas and can be used for some mighty tasty treats from peach ice cream to peach-ginger chicken. There are many roadside fruits stands and farmers markets to choose from with many delicious peach varieties.

May 23 & 24 –To remember those who have fallen in service to our country, there are special exhibits and events at museums across the state. The Museum of the American G.I.’s Living History Weekend is the largest event of its kind in Texas, with visitors from across the nation coming to view Living History Displays, shop in the Military Swap Meet, witness the roar of tanks in our WWII Battle reenactments, and watch on “Over the Top” WWI Trench battle! This family-friendly event is sure to have something for everyone! Stop by one of the Texas Travel Information Centers around the state to find a Memorial Day event near you.

April 12 – The Poteet Strawberry Festival takes place April 22nd-24th and attracts about 100,000 attendees every year. April is work zone safety awareness month. We encourage you to watch out for road crews, workers, and heavy equipment that may be only a few feet away from passing vehicles. The key message is for drivers to use extra caution in work zones as many times protective gear on crew members is limited to a vest, hard hat, and safety boots. Safety is first and foremost as we share the roadway with everyone. Find more info here: txdot.gov

March 18, 2024 – It’s wildflower season again! Time to get your camera ready for some fantastic shots of nature’s beauty. Remember to follow basic guidelines when you take your pictures. Be safe! Avoid spots along the highway or busy roads with a lot of traffic and never cross traffic to get to the flowers. Make the block or a U-turn if necessary. Be careful where you place your subjects. It is common to encounter stinging or biting insects such as wasps, bees, and fire ants. Although rare, you could encounter a rattlesnake. Just be cautious and remember, if you leave these creatures alone, they won't hurt you. Don't trespass on private property. Try to sit in front of the flowers so that you don’t hurt them. You can still get a great photo surrounded by flowers and you won’t be doing any damage to the delicate blooms. Take a map just in case. Some of the best wildflower fields are in low cell phone coverage areas. You can pick up the latest Texas map at any of our Travel Information Centers around the state.

In honor of the Heroes who fought valiantly at the Alamo we celebrate Alamo Heroes Day on March 6th. These iconic heroes of Texas legend; Davy Crockett, James Bowie and William B. Travis, to name a few, are honored today for their ultimate sacrifice.

Texas Independence Day March 2. Today we celebrate Texas Independence Day. Sam Houston and delegates from all around Texas signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. Happy Presidents Day! Celebrate Presidents Day at the Bush Family Home. On Saturday, February 17th from 10 am to 2 pm, the Texas Historical Commission will be celebrating presidential history. Admission is free for children and adults.

One of the favorite holidays for the Bush Family Home State Historic Site is Presidents’ Day. Although the holiday is a combined celebration of George Washington’s and Abraham Lincoln’s birthdays, we’ve extended our commemoration to include all past presidents!
