Guests have been talking about them and we finally managed to capture them on video recently so we had to share. Flying squirrels, otherwise known as gliders, are nocturnal and can often be found in large groups. These guys enjoy the bird feeders a little too much!

Not too long ago a guest sent us this video of squirrel paying a visit to the back deck of Birdsong. It took us a while to figure out that he was actually gnawing on the aluminum frame of the door! After doing some research, we learned that squirrels search out hard surfaces, particularly metal ones, in an effort to wear down their front teeth. Their front teeth are hard enamel and soft in the back. The front teeth are constantly growing and the gnawing files down and sharpens those teeth. We sprinkled a little bit of deterrent and asked this guy to gnaw somewhere else in the forest, just so our guests could also enjoy the peacefulness of the cabin. All is well now.
