I want to remind everyone we now have open gyms every Monday from 7:30-9pm. This is a great time to train your skills you have been working on in classes and to build your endurance. For those of you performing in our community show this upcoming March, it is important to start training in advance for that. Your body needs time to get used to any new training you are doing, whether that is adding a higher intensity or more training time per session or per week. You should only add one of these things at a time to ensure injury prevention. So if you plan to perform, give your body time to be in the best shape to do so.

Also this upcoming Wednesday the 22nd we are hosting our monthly partner acrobatics workshop, with a focus on L-basing.

Do you have a kid or teen who is interested in joining aerial acrobatics and circus arts? For the first time in a while we had a weekly studio spot open; so now we can begin hosting beginner kids classes again. In these classes, we call Carny Class, students will learn flexibility, aerial acrobatics (on silks, hammock, trapeze, and lyra), as well as ground based circus prop skills. These classes are great for kids ages 6-12. For teen students you are welcome to join our teen/adult classes.

Current class openings for Thursday night classes include 3 spots left in our Carny Class and two spots left in our Aerial Silks Class. All classes book full at 6 students to ensure enough teacher attention to everyone in class. Register today at https://www.sihkaanndestroy.com/calendar/

What a year it has been. I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season so far. Here at The Last Carnival we are wrapping up part of a project we started this past year for you all to enjoy. In January I started a Patreon Page for the school to feature past community shows, flexibility instructional videos, and aerial acrobatics training videos.

So far there is a decade of community shows online for you to view more circus! No, not every show we produced in there. I still have some archives to dig through and edit, but there is at least one to three shows posted up for every year we have been a school and been giving our students and local performers a stage to perform on. You can still sign up for $3/month to view any of these. And in the upcoming year there will be a few more releases of shows including our 2025 community shows and a couple of professional performances we video. And now you can also purchase the community shows directly for download without a subscription. So if you were in one of our community shows from 2020 on, go to our page to get an edited download of your act. I chose 2020 to start these shows as downloads because that was the year that pushed me into digital content. And I’m happy for it and to be able to share my love of circus with a wider audience.

There is more. If you are wanting to open up your range of motion, I have plenty of instructional videos from my flexibility for any body program on our Patreon for a $5/month membership. There are also a number of contortion training videos in this tier.

And for those of you practicing aerial, while we do allow you to take video of you performing a move in the studio, we do not allow you to take video of your instructor during class. But no worries, if you are wanting to practice the moves you learned in class and can’t remember exactly how they go or need help with troubleshooting during an open gym or your at home practice, we got you. For $15/ month you can access aerial instructional videos with movement directions, troubleshooting, and problem solving. In 2024 I was focused on releasing beginner aerial silks videos, but in 2025 will be releasing aerial hoop and trapeze videos as well.

So I guess what I’m saying with all this is thanks for all the community support this past decade and I can’t wait to start the new year out with you all with, yes, MORE CIRCUS!

She has become known in our troupe for her amazing costume range of custom pieces she has gathered, as well as her fearless dynamic movements. Leo started his circus journey many years ago in our kids' classes and, after many years off, came back to the circus as a teenager and quickly moved through classes and is now in advanced aerial silks. Leo has performed in a number of our student shows in Lawrence Kansas and group performances at The Kauffman Center in KC. Looking for a fun way to get in shape? Try out one of our beginner aerial fitenss classes. There are spots available in aerial silks level 1, trapeze and aerial hoop level 1, aerial yoga, and fly fitness. We have kids, teen, and adult classes. For the next month or two we will be deep diving into all the variations of star drops and other drops that can be done above or below this. Let's explore. I'd like to introduce Smashin Smo Ortiz. Smo is a certified badass who handstands on motorcycles, does flips through the air, is a circus strong woman, and generally just a daredevil. Smo is one of the most creative acrobats out there, always coming up with ways to experiment with new props and inventing never before seen acts! This Sunday April 30th in Lawrence KS, you can see her performing on her German Wheel, Doubles Trapeze, AcroChairs, and Aerial Lollipop! Today is the last day to get pre-sale tickets online. This Sunday we are welcoming to the stage Sage Ann. Sage is the most circus obsessed, hardest working 12 year old out there. She homeschools in the daytime to allow room in her schedule to train most days of the week for hours each day in dance, aerial acrobatics, contortion and hand balancing, and circus prop skills. Sage started training at The Last Carnival when she was 9 years old, and this year she got invited to be part of our professional performance troupe. Sage has since performed with us at The Great Plains Music and Arts Festival and the KC Lyric Opera Ball, amazing guests with her extreme contortion. You have heard of soccer moms, yeah? Well Sage’s mom is a circus mom. Her mom Crystal can be seen at all Sage’s shows, not just cheering her on but helping with many of the behind the scene tasks to help the show run smoothly. If you want to see the amazing things her little circus freak can do, join us in Lawrence Kansas this Sunday April 30th at 4pm for The Last Carnival Acrobats RoadShow where Sage Ann will be performing on the Trapeze, Aerial Silks, and Contortion!
