Part two… we absolutely LOVED our Red Bus tour with our Jammer Dan. Fantastic tour, gorgeous scenery and made it to the top of Logan’s Pass and the Continental Divide.
Stops were made at the pretty McDonakd Lodge, McDonald Creek, and atop the mountain there. The Going To The Sun Road was AMAZING!! ❤️

A big hello from Big Sky Country- beautiful Montana!! We had an early flight yesterday and then hopped on the bus once we arrived and hit the road!! We were headed east to Butte, a city with a rich mining history. We toured the beautiful Clark Mansion, an incredible 28 room home. The Serbian Christian Church was a really pretty stop and we learned something about all the immigrants from all over the world who came to work in the mines. Then today our trolley tour with a retired school teacher was excellent. We learned much about this town, its mining history, and all the rowdy times during its heyday. Then we headed out to make our way to the mountain area. We made a quick stop at the Miracle American Museum which had something for everyone. We continued north, all the while enjoying the views of Flathead Lake. It’s the largest fresh water lake in the country! Loved it!! So we’ve been busy!!!!

Hello from Stockholm, Sweden! These people are happy up here….. especially on this bright sunny day we had!! The city of a collection of 12 islands all connected with bridges and ferries, so the place is huge! Nearly 6 million people live in the area. It’s a beautiful mix of old and new, along with cobblestone streets and alley ways. The old buildings, palaces and churches blend in to make it even more beautiful. We enjoyed a walking tour of old town. A highlight was seeing the apartment where the two gals from ABBA used to live before they hit it big! Thom and I also did the Viking tour and learned much about their culture, family life, and all was featured in the Viking Museum. They started out as simple farmers, hunters and gatherers. That all changed as they perfected the sailing boats. It was interesting to see the change in their culture and ultimately their religion, as some adapted to Christianity. Their jewelry, weapons, family hierarchy all changed. It ultimately lead to their demise. But their culture here is legendary so you see it everywhere. I also learned they had no written language at first, so the beautiful stones depicted much about them. Great touring day!

As our journey continued we visited the small area of Åland Island. This archipelago area spans about 6,700 islands and lies halfway between Sweden and Finland. As such it is a Finnish sovereignty. It has a population of about 30,000 people. We spent time on a driving tour and then on to the cute town of Mariehamn. I’m just charmed by places like this!! A highlight was a sailboat ride aboard a 1926 sailing ship around the Aland Archipelago. The captain and his crew did an amazing job of hoisting the sails and setting our course. Truly a remarkable boat! Another fine day on the water…….and as always ….. I’m always happy on the water!!

While in Poland we travelled to the Stutthof Concentration camp. It is a somber place, but an important one in that it reminds us that 88,000 Jewish lives were taken there. As I walked there I just couldn’t help to think…. How did this happen and how how did Hi**er turn his people into this? One man….. why did they follow him in to this abyss? I just had to stop to weap and pray for every lost soul there and for peace everywhere. Places like this need to be visited so that we NEVER forget. 💔

As we have traveled I found the port city of Gdańsk , Poland fascinating. To review history, it’s here that WWII started with the German invasion. They bombarded the city and over 20% of their population was killed, others fled, and sadly the Germans began rounding up the Jewish people there and they were sent to a nearby concentration camp. What I found amazing is that at the end of the war, the Polish people choose to rebuild. They decided to rebuild in the style of the 15 and 16th century. So when you visit now you feel this sense of pride there. It is absolutely beautiful and makes one admire their tanasiticity. I especially loved St. Mary’s Street with its lovely homes and stoops; covered with greenery and flowers. I can only imagine families there along this beautiful street. Every corner of the city has that feel to it. Absolutely loved our time there.

Denmark….part three and my most favorite day on the trip!! We were so hapoy on this lovely tour of the island of Bornholm. Its main city is Ronne, and we docked here for a short driving tour. The island is about 26 miles long and 18 miles wide. It’s covered with rolling hills and lush farmlands. The population is about 12,000 residents. There’s several other small towns but otherwise it’s just land! Years ago there was a lot if fishing here, and they were famous for their smoked fish. Sadly, all but be smart me house is open now. New green energy industries have come here though and it has a low unemployment rate. One thing that makes the island so famous are the round white churches. There are 4 here and only 9 left in the whole country. We made a stop and it was stunning yet simple. Next we went to one of their seaside villages and jumped on a boat with a small group for a ride all along the coastline. I was in heaven!! Wind on my face and blue skies above! Loved this day and the slow pace! Highly recommended you visit here!

Denmark part two! The following day we were in Copenhagen! It’s truly one of the most beautiful cities in the Baltic area. We started with a walking tour into the original port area of the city. It was a fantastic tour and I loved seeing the sights and park where the famous Little Mermaid statue is. We walked more into the city center passing Tiger Street, home of some original army barracks from the 1600’s and now very cool apartments. Next up we saw many of their royal residences and government buildings. So we’re up to about 10,000 steps now! Then it was time to tour the incredible Christianborg Palace which is opulent and so gorgeous! Next up was the beautiful Tivoli Gardens, a great amusement part dating back over 100 years. It’s said that Walt Disney himself visited here for ideas on Disneyland! Charming spot and classic Copenhagen! I feel like we just touched the surface of this beautiful city!! Step total was over 17,000 steps…… whew!!! Worn out but SO worth it! PS….. this city rivals Amsterdam with bike riders!!! They are everywhere…. And fast too!

Beautiful Denmark!! Our first stop here was Alborg, which was a Viking settlement and trading post in 900! Today it features incredible Renaissance architecture and is the 4th largest city in the country. It’s a very walkable place too with lovely flower lined streets. Hollyhocks are everywhere and were in full bloom! We enjoyed being ‘Vikings’ for a moment too! We learned that the people are Norse…. The occupation was a ‘Viking’. I’m not cut out for it… helmets were heavy and I could barely lift the weapons!

In honor of the Olympics I thought I would share our visit to Dale of Norway, the official supplier of the Norwegian winter team members. This locally owned factory was interesting to visit, especially since it’s been around for over 100 years. Located in the picturesque town of Voss, it now employes about 180 people. The weaving is now done by machine, and then assembled and sewn by hand. I loved all the patterns and colors they use. Our guide had been there for over 40 years, so he had much to share. I especially enjoyed seeing their Olympic Room, with the sweaters from each of the years. Oh…. And did I mention shopping….definitely did some of that!! A true Norwegian made place!

We enjoyed another charming waterfront town in southern Norway - Stavanger. It’s a bustling port city of about 180,000 people. Its history dates back to 1100. Oil was found offshore in the sea there, so there is a lot of commerce associated with it now. Prior to that fishing was its major income. What I found beautiful was the old homes from the 1700-1800’s! They all feature painted white exteriors and line an area with cobblestone streets. The locals are avid gardeners, which just add to its charm! ❤️

This is beautiful Bergen, Norway. Over the years this seaside port has been the capital of the country, but now is the 2nd largest city with around 280,000 residents. I was charmed by the historical wooden structures, which date back to the 1700’s. Fishing was big here, so it was easy to imagine the hustle and bustle along the narrow streets. That area is now a unesco World Heritage Site. We had an excellent local guide on our walking tour there. The city has continued to grow, especially with tourism! I really loved this town!

Greetings from the capital city, Oslo. It’s a beautiful blend of an old and a very modern city. Its history is fragmented, as they were under attack a lot so the name has changed a lot too. Several fires also wiped out all the old wooden structures too, so stone became the building material of choice. Now, it’s very modern looking and in 2025, the name Óslo will celebrate 100 years as the Capital. The King and Queen reside here, and their Parliament meets here too. We enjoyed several tours here around the city with tours at Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Palace and its Garden, the Olympic Ski Jump area, and their Martine Museum.

As we have visited the western coastal areas of Norway, we’ve enjoyed several small boat rides in to 3 of their famous Fjords. There are a total of over 1200 of them!
A fjords is a long narrow sea inlet marked with steep sides and cliffs created by glaciers. They are simply spectacular! The water is clear and very deep- more than 1000 feet. They are primarily sea water, but glacier waterfalls also bring in fresh water too. I loved each cruise and we sailed on the Eidfjord, Songesand, and Fordand outside of Stavanger. Some of you may recognize Pulpit Rock there…. Tom Cruise performed a stunt there for a Mission Impossible movie!

There’s really something special waking up to this view from Eidfjord! What was even more spectacular was traveling up the narrow mountain roads to the Vøringfoss-Fossli Park. It’s here the convergence of two waterfalls create this incredible canyon. We later traveled to the dam above it and the lake that it created. Another blue sky, sunshine filled day. I’m happy in my heart to have seen all this!!

Greetings from beautiful Norway! One of our first adventures was a train ride from Oslo to the coastal town of Bergen. The ride took about 7 hours as we made our way through Hardangervidda National Park. Truly stunning scenery particularly when we reached an elevation of over 4000 feet. There was still snow around us and yet everything looked so green. Gorgeous lakes and waterfalls were so breathtaking. Lovely ride.
