I find it amazing that the Canadian Goose couple that laid and hatched in the vicinity of Old Mill Guest House 18 little goslings have ALL survived and now hang out in what is called a "gang brood", and will hang with their parents the first year of their life!

Our guests this week are a colony of honey bees (F. Y. I. they do not affect either rental). A local beekeeper temporarily installed a new home for them, and by the end of the day the bees discovered they liked their new home.

We are not big fans of the LOOKS of milkweed, but thought we'd have it intermixed with our other plants and flora to help attract Monarch butterflies. We've noticed a few Monarchs over the past month, and discovered their purpose.....to lay eggs for the 4TH GENERATION of Monarchs...the fourth generation ("born" in September and October).....is the generation that travels to warmer climates, living for 6 to 8 months in sunny Mexico.The 1st, 2,nd, and 3rd generation Monarchs only live 2 to 4 WEEKS. ** Click on the individual photos for description.

Passing up river by the Old Mill House the evening of August 27, 2023.....the WWII Navy ship, LST 325. The ship is a survivor, having participated in the Normandy, France invasion landing on D-Day on June 6, 1944. The ship was welcomed by a contingent of Port Byron residents, fire department personnel, and equipment...... complete with flashing lights, sirens, and cheers. The old gal blared back in response with her ship's horn in appreciation. The 325 passed through Sunday night just after 9:00pm on her way to Dubuque, Iowa.

A few potential guests have asked about our steps to each unit. There are 16 short and a bit steep leading to the "Captain's Quarters" (one bedroom), and 6 stone steps leading from the street to the rear entrance of the two bedroom.
