Help stop another 6% tax on Airbnb’s, VRBO’s, short term vacation rentals in Washington State.

Say “no” to this new tax!

Briefly: HB5576 is a 2025 Washington state bill that imposes a 6% excise tax on short-term rental transactions starting January 1, 2026. The revenue is earmarked for local affordable housing initiatives, including programs and infrastructure projects. The bill also amends existing tax laws and creates a new chapter in Title 82 RCW to streamline the process.

Essentially this proposed new tax will be passed onto guests. As you know many voices can make a difference please take a few minutes to voice you opposition to this bill.

The process is super easy:

If you own a short-term rental in the Leavenworth zip code or hope to purchase one, it’s critical to understand the upcoming restrictions. Due to the housing cap, active short-term rentals will no longer be eligible for sale with permit transfers after late summer 2026.

📌 Key Details:
✔ Only homes with active short-term rental permits can be sold with the permit.
✔ The home must not have already transferred ownership after August 2021 to qualify.
✔ After late summer 2026, permitted rentals in this area will no longer be transferable.

This means your window to buy or sell an active short-term rental in Leavenworth is limited to this year and the first half of next year.
