[email protected] In 2009, we expanded to serve survivors in Schuylkill County.

The Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center (SARCC), works together with our community to prevent sexual violence and promote healing for those who experience it. Established in 1983, SARCC provides counseling, advocacy, and community action that will prevent the perpetration of sexual violence. Our work will change the culture of the community, with an end result of having a community that

is ready to provide affirming, trauma-informed responses to sexual violence and the skills needed to promote resilience and prevent perpetration. The services provided at SARCC are no-cost, and available to community members of all ages, genders, and identities.

Accompaniment services are offered by SARCC to anyone wanting a safe person to stay with them through scary processes related to their assault. Our advocates can provide information or go with you for any part of the legal process you require assistance for. They can accompany you to a safe, free exam, help you file a police report, or work with you on receiving a protection order. You never have to undertake these things alone.

Happy Friday (the 13th) from Shenandoah High School.

Technology gave me some trouble at the start, but it was worked out by the 2nd class in the auditorium, which was decorated so nicely from the concert last light!

This was my first year being able to do prevention presentations for 9th through 12 grades!

SARCC will take part in legal advocacy, in which we help support survivors who are currently dealing with legal processes. These SARCC volunteers educate about and navigate the system, provide accompaniment, and assist in sexual assault protection orders. They ensure survivors’ interests are represented and their rights upheld, making sure these people do not have to go through the system alone.

When survivors need help navigating overwhelming and potentially triggering medical situations, a medical advocate, or patient advocate, may be the right person to help. These people are often volunteers or someone who is close to the patient. They will help survivors learn options for care, be there during exams, and navigate emergency systems that the survivor may find too complicated to process at these difficult times.

Mandated reporter training is a requirement for all school employees to complete, and Act 126 involves training these professionals on child abuse recognition and reporting. SARCC provides a state-approved mandated reporting training through the PA Coalition to Advance Respect, which satisfies each of these professional requirements. Programs are offered both in-person and virtually. Please contact SARCC for more information on these trainings if you are interested.

Throughout the year, SARCC offers all kinds of support groups for different populations in need. LGBTQ+ youth and adults join and discuss their personal stories and connect with one another in their respective session held every month in Lebanon. We have also offered support groups for non-offending parents who want to understand the effects of child sexual abuse. At the same time, they will gain skills for self-care during their time of caring for their survivor.

Let us know at [email protected] if you are interested in taking part in a group of interest– chances are, we already have one in place.
