On we highlight the thousands of historic signatures recorded in candle smoke or etched into the rock walls of Mammoth Cave during the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. The practice of writing on cave surfaces was discontinued in the early 1900s because of the obvious negative impacts to the cave, but these fancy signatures will be preserved indefinitely thanks to the nearly unchanging cave environment.

We are open year-round and encourage our guests to create memories that last a lifetime!

We are open from 9 am to 4 pm Central Time, 7 days per week. We are open year-round and closed only on Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day.

No reservations are needed – you can buy tickets at the door – we have plenty of capacity.

Tickets include both the zoo and the cave tour:
Adults = $25.95
Children 3 and under = FREE
Kids ages 4 to 14 = $15.95
Kids in high school and college = $19.95
Senior Citizens = $19.95
Military = $19.95
First Responders (Police, Fire & EMTs) = $19.95
CDL Drivers = $19.95

All of our animals are out, you can interact with the kangaroos, and the cave is open for tours.

We rent golf carts at KDU. There is an initial incline coming into the park and the zoo is spread out over about 20 acres. Therefore, there is a lot of walking between animal exhibits. Golf carts make it easier if you have young kids, elderly guests, or guests with physical limitations. Golf carts are great for cold weather, hot days, rainy days, to put a backpack or picnic lunch on the back, a stroller on the back, or a wheelchair on the back.

Golf carts rent as follows: 4-seater is $34.95 and the 6-seater is $59.95. We also have 4-seater lifted golf carts available for rent. You can reserve a golf cart online at Reserve a Golf Cart | Kentucky Down Under in advance of your visit. You don’t pay for your golf cart until you arrive at the park. You must be at the park between 9 am and 10:30 am Central Time to pick up your reserved golf cart or it will be released.

Guests are allowed to bring a cooler and food into the park. There are plenty of picnic tables throughout the park for guests to use.

We allow dogs that are friendly and on a leash in the park with their owners. Just note that there are a couple animal exhibits that the dogs can’t enter (The Outback with the kangaroos & Land of the Lories with the birds) for the safety of your pet and our animals.

We hope that you will share your photos on our page and we will in turn share them with our Facebook friends.

We hope to see you soon.

"The cave is alive, with the sound of music!"

Mammoth Cave National Park will host the 44th annual Cave Sing celebration on Sunday, December 3rd, 2023, at 2 p.m. CST. The free holiday event will feature musical performances in the cave by The Band Table Singers and The Caveman Chorus.

Cave Sing participants will meet behind the park visitor center and depart for the Historic Entrance at 2 p.m. Participants must walk approximately 0.75 miles (1.2 km) round trip, to reach the performance area. The access trail includes a steep outdoor hillside to and from the cave’s natural entrance with a total of 130 stairs.

Participants will travel along broad walkways inside the cave through largest passageways. The trail is mostly level, but some hilly and uneven areas exist. The performance area is in a natural environment with low lighting and a temperature of around 54ºF (12ºC). Even though the cave air stays near a constant 54 degrees Fahrenheit, wind chills near the entrance may be much cooler. There are no seating options, and the estimated performance time is around 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Light refreshments will be served in at the visitor center immediately after the performance where there will also be a visit from Santa Claus.
