Interesting thing about honey berries that I have been noticing. Picture on the left is just after I processed 20 lbs of honey berries (and washed my hands) last night. Berry stain is obvious.

Picture on the right is this morning, just 12ish hrs later. My skin has absorbed the berry stain entirely. I can’t explain how or why but this happens every time.

So don’t worry about stains on your skin those will usually be gone by the next day.

A little frosty this week, but berries are ripening and still look good. Aurora are the variety and we still have plenty of berries to harvest.

U-pick will be open on Monday (Memorial Day) from 8a-11a.

The orchard is located at 6 South Main Street in Lima.

Saturday morning, berries are ripe, not very smokey, dew is drying quickly, and the robins are so full that they can barely fly🙄. It’s going to be a good day to pick Honey berries.

Aurora honey berries are ready. We will try to pick Friday and Saturday mornings from 8a-11a. There is a chance of rain each day - so we will be updating conditions on this thread.

Some of the happy pickers from yesterday. Today from 8/10 we will be picking.

Next week the Auroras will be ready to pick and we plan to be open for u-pick from 8-11 on Friday and Saturday 8/ 23 & 8/24.

Berries are ripe and we will plan to start picking the Tundras on Saturday morning. The weather may be an issue as rain showers are forecast to begin Friday afternoon and rain off-on all day Saturday. Berries really need to be dry to be picked and cleaned — so I will be updating on the conditions on Saturday morning.

U-pick hours will be
7a-11am Saturday (weather-permitting)
7a-10am Sunday

Tundra are getting close ( I had hoped to start this weekend). Brix is 17ish (not bad). Attachment is quite firm. Smoke has slowed down ripening.

Long story short- we will start picking Tundras on Saturday 8/10.

Yes, huckleberries are delicious, but will you risk bears while Billygoating up the mountain to get to the “special” patch? Or you could come to Lima in early-August to pick honey berries- no briars and brambles, a beautiful mowed orchard, and NO grizzlies.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks reports a man shot and killed a grizzly bear after the animal charged him near Columbia Falls.
