Vacations are my jam, and my favorite is our annual week long trip to the Smokies on our Harley Street Glide. Just me, the hubs, and the oh so beautiful mountains. *Sigh*…I’d love to call that place home. I am a giant Harry Potter fan that felt like a little kid on Christmas when I visited Hogwarts in Florida. I’m currently reading the series to my kids, they are loving it just as much as me! I love an adventure, but I am also down to curl up on the couch to binge watch a show, or float on my pool all day

Let's talk about Cocktail Hour! 🥂

✨Separate your cocktail hour location from your reception location - selfishly photographers love this because we are more likely to get the chance to pop in 5 minutes before your guests are allowed into the reception so we can take gorgeous pictures of your reception before all the beer cans, water bottles, purses, and cellphones have taken over everything!

✨Outside is a great option for cocktail hour! Just keep the season in mind. If you are having a July wedding...it may be a little hot and you will need to provide shade, seating, and maybe some fans... we want your guests happy and getting in the party mood...not melting.

✨Cocktail hour traditionally starts 30 - 60 minutes *after* the ceremony. This is a major point I want to hit on from the photographer's point of view. Over the past few years, I have felt the push from planners, venues, and some couples feeling like cocktail hour starts immediately after the ceremony and we need to be done with pictures in an hour. This is not possible for a traditional timeline 😅 We are moving, tracking, and posing MANY people during that time. I typically plan on an hour and a half for family formals, bridal party, and bridal portraits to account for Aunt Betty who is in the bathroom, moving 20 bags of items from the bridal suite to the party bus, or the party bus took the extra long route, etc 😆 this is real-life people. In my 10 years of experience, the best I've been able to do is shave off 10 minutes of that hour an a half. If you plan on cocktail hour starting 30 minutes after rather than immediately we should have all the time we need or if your reception is on the same property maybe consider a Cocktail Hour and a half 😉

✨Activities are a great way to keep the cocktail hour moving. I Spy Wedding game, table tennis, giant Jenga, lawn games, and cocktail table tic-tac-toe, or having your DJ play trivia with the chance to win small prizes. Everyone loves a good competition with a prize on the line!

In the blink of an eye, they grow up. Those tiny hands that once wrapped around your finger are now reaching for independence. The giggles that filled your home are now memories echoing in the halls. As mothers, we're all too familiar with the bittersweet melody of watching our children grow.

On this Mother's Day, I find myself reflecting on the fleeting nature of time. It seems like just yesterday I was cradling my newborns in my arms, marveling at the miracle of life. Now, they are teenagers on the cusp of taking flight into the world.

It's moments like these that remind me of the importance of cherishing every second. Time slips through our fingers like grains of sand, leaving behind memories etched in our hearts. As much as we may try to hold onto them, these moments are fleeting. That's why it's crucial to seize them while we can.

In a world that moves at lightning speed, photographs serve as timeless reminders of the moments that matter most. They freeze time, allowing us to relive cherished memories again and again. I was reminded of this recently as I took a stroll down memory lane sobbing happy tears as I viewed old images and watched snippets of video, listening to my children's adorable little voices. I hadn't realized how much I had forgotten.

From the first smile to the first day of school, each milestone is a testament to the beautiful journey of motherhood. Through the lens of a camera, we can preserve these moments for a lifetime, ensuring that they're never forgotten.

As mothers, we wear many hats—caretaker, teacher, cheerleader—but above all, we are storytellers. Through photographs, we weave a narrative of love, growth, and endless possibility. It's a gift we give not only to ourselves but also to our children, offering them a glimpse into their own history.

So, this Mother's Day, I urge you to take a moment to reflect on the fleeting nature of time. Embrace every hug, every laugh, every tear, for they are the threads that bind us together. And don't forget to get in front of the camera, not just behind it, for in the blink of an eye, these moments will be nothing more than memories.

To all the mothers out there, may your day be filled with love, laughter, and the beauty of fleeting moments captured forever in photographs.

Planning a Sparkler exit? Here are some things to think about!

✨ Check with your venue! Not every venue wants the liability.

✨ Make sure you purchase the extra long sparklers to ensure lots of photo taking time.

✨ Have SEVERAL lighters or mini torches on hand and light a few sparklers at a time in a bunch.

✨ Light at the bottom so they will burn up and not down while everyone is getting lined up.

✨ Run, walk, dip, piggyback, all the things, multiple times! Have fun with it and give your photographer multiple opportunities to get shots. It’s dark and you are moving. The more we get to shoot the better!

✨ *Bonus tip * is your photographer scheduled to leave before the end of the night? Do a faux send off with just your bridal party and a few family members while the party carries on inside.

Ever attend a wedding and during the kiss you think, "dang get a room"? If they are a Captured by Lydia Couple, now you know why! 😁 I have NEVER missed a kiss picture and this is the reason! I was close once due to a quick peck on the lips, but I had a gut feeling it was going to be like that so I was prepared 😅 Another time I was photographing a first look, and the groom was a very fast kisser so I told him this tip. He groaned and rolled his eyes...but I kid you not, when the officiant told him to kiss the bride he looked down the aisle at me and held up 5 fingers to tell me he was giving me the 5 seconds before kissing his bride 😆💀

Missing THE kiss is a wedding photog's worst fear so do us a favor and hold that kiss 💋

It's wedding week for these two!! I met up with Kyle + Allison this past spring for yet another COLD + WINDY engagement session. I'm telling you friends... my brides are TOUGH! 💪🤩 Can't wait to meet up with these two again on Saturday! 💍🥂

Tomorrow is the BIG day for these two and I am so excited!!! On a brisk windy day in October last year I drove down to Columbus to photograph this sweet couple in the quaint German Village area. I adore this section of Columbus with its old houses, brick alleys, and flowers galore. After strolling the streets for a bit we hopped over to the Scioto Mile to grab a few more photos with the beautiful city and sunset as a backdrop. Happy Wedding Eve, Kylie + David!!

Exactly a year before Carter entered this world I was photographing his parents' wedding 🥰 I seriously can't say enough how full my heart is when I get to photograph the little ones of my bridal couples!!
