The Sea Gypsy is a great headquarters for float hunting. If you find one, make sure that you let our front office staff know so that we can all pretend to be excited for you, but we'll secretly be really jealous. Happy hunting!

Did you know that we drop more floats during the winter than the summer? 🔮

In the summer months of June, July and August, we drop thirty regular floats on the beach per week (not including our "special drop" dates). During the off-season months of September through May, we drop an additional twenty floats per week. That is fifty regular floats dropped per week in fall, winter and spring!

So not only are there less visitors to the beach at this time, but more floats are dropped too! That makes your chances of finding a float that much higher this winter and spring. 😉

🐚 Who’s ready to hunt for natural treasures on the beach? Our next Beachcombing Explorience is coming up this Saturday, January 6! Join a leading local rockhound for an afternoon of searching for agates, gemstones, shells and fossils on the beach.

🐙 We'll meet at the SW 33rd Street Beach Access in Lincoln City at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024. This program is free and registration is not required. All are welcome.

You may have guessed it... the Devils Club (Oplopanax horridus)! 🌲

Join us for Lincoln City’s Fall Kite Festival 🪁 Coming next weekend, September 23-24!

We’ll have exciting kite demonstrations by experts, kite-making, and of course the colorful, giant kites floating above our beautiful beach.

All the action takes place at D River State Recreation Site.

Here's what we have planned:

SATURDAY 9/23

~ 10:00 am: Announcements and opening performance

~10:00 am - 2:00 pm: FREE Kite Making Workshop. Donations to benefit Family Promise of Lincoln County

~ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm: Performances by Featured Fliers

SUNDAY 9/24

11:00 am - 11:20 am: Kite Flier Memorial

12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Mega Fly! Enjoy watching all fliers on the field together

1:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Performances by Featured Fliers

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Tours of the Big Kite Field

4:00 pm: Festival Closes

All day festivities include:

You may have guessed it... a Common Murre! 🌊🕊

These remarkable birds are true marvels of nature. With their sleek black and white plumage and a distinctive white ring around their eyes, they are not just handsome but also highly adapted for life on the open seas. 🌊🕊

Common Murres are incredible divers, capable of plunging into the depths of the ocean in search of food. They can reach depths of up to 600 feet (180 meters) and stay submerged for impressive durations. 🌊🏊‍♂️

They're not just amazing divers but also agile fliers, zipping across the water's surface and soaring through the air with grace. It's incredible to witness their aerial acrobatics! 🌊✈️

Unfortunately, these magnificent birds face numerous challenges in our rapidly changing world, including threats from pollution, climate change, and habitat destruction. We must do our part to protect and conserve these beautiful creatures and their habitats. 🌍💚
