60 degrees and sunny 😎 Perfect beach days are here in Lincoln City, and it's time for a reminder on safety tips:

1. Never turn your back on the ocean! The Pacific Ocean is powerful - tides can change quickly and sneaker waves can wipe people off their feet.

2. Be aware of rip currents! If caught, stay calm and swim parallel to shore. Then swim towards the shore when you escape the current's pull.

3. Always check the tides. There are two high tides and two low tides per day. Be aware of rising tides, especially on rocky beaches.

4. Drown beach fires with water, not sand! Sand can hide hot embers, causing burns.

This Saturday, June 29th, join us in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area (CHSRA)! Spanning nearly 10,000 acres along the Central Oregon Coast, the CHSRA protects towering Sitka spruce trees, wild salmon populations, and lush vegetation.

If this area was not designated by Congress in 1974, we might have a lot less nature to admire in Lincoln City today.

We will celebrate and commemorate the past 50 years of conservation this Saturday, June 29th from 11 am until 2 pm at the USFS Experimental Forest headquarters (1912 N Old Scenic HWY 101. 2.5 miles north of Otis. Look for signs on the road!)

Enjoy talks by experts and historians, a film screening, live music, and delicious food. Everyone is welcome! More info here: https://bit.ly/3XFEiG8

We are hiding floats for a good cause! Explore Lincoln City has partnered with the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation for a special float drop of 128 light blue glass floats through June 14th. Each float is connected to a different non-profit, like the Elakha Alliance and Wildlife Center of the North Coast.

These floats are marked with a special sticker – a little different than our regular Finders Keepers stickers. When people find these floats on the beach and register them online, the Marie Lamform Charitable Foundation will donate money to the nonprofit associated with that float. So be sure to register one of these floats online if you find it on the beach! Register here: https://bit.ly/3yJtjRq

It’s Asian & Pacific American Heritage Month! Head to the North Lincoln County Historical Museum in Lincoln City to see their current exhibit of historic Japanese & Chinese fishing floats. 🎣

Throughout the 20th century, ocean currents carried these floats thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean, from Asia to the Oregon Coast. 🌊 While these floats were once practical tools for fishermen, they're also beautiful works of art. Each one has a unique story to tell!
