Solar Sweet Maple Farm

Solar Sweet Maple Farm Solar Sweet Maple Farm, owned and operated by Tom and Rhonda Gadhue, is nestled in the mountains of South Lincoln, Vermont.

We are situated on 200 acres of manged forested land and tap 17,000 beautiful maple trees. Our mission is to “put a green twist on and old Vermont tradition” by creating an inviting, environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and self-sustaining sugaring operation. Our sugar house is powered by a 12.5 kw solar field, made from recycled and energy efficient materials, and heated from the wood harv

ested from our property. All of our tubing and mainline is food grade - which means it is made from “virgin” plastic and not recycled bottles and other plastic materials. The motors on our boosters are energy efficient because they have “slow-start” motors which allows them to run at a slower pace when not needed and alleviate huge power surges when starting up. The sap is boiled on our wood-fired evaporator which gives our syrup that smoky Vermont flavor. Our syrup is made by sap produced on our property, otherwise known as sole source. The syrup purchased from us is made by us and not purchased from another sugar maker or company and repackaged. It is 100% pure Vermont made maple syrup. In addition to creating this “green twist on and old Vermont tradition” another aspect of our vision was to create a warm inviting atmosphere in our sugar house where people would want to visit and comfortably stay awhile. We believe that one of the many great traditions with sugaring is visiting many sugar houses and watching the sap being boiled and made into syrup. We’ve created an space where people can sit at our custom farmers table and enjoy a maple treat or they can sit up at the counter top on our teak stools and get a bird’s eye view of the sugar making process. We have several employees who help us throughout the year and seasonally during sugaring. Aaron Clark and Joe Norton work year-round and maintain the woods, run lines and tubing, tap trees, boil and package syrup and MANY other things along with keeping our operation running smoothly. Kip Raftery is retired from many years at IBM and he helps to keep the sugar house in top shape. We welcome visitors, tours and field trips. Just give us a call at (802) 355-7016 and we can set up a time and day for a personal tour of our sugar house and woods.
