Named after the creek running though the property, this little lovely is a blend of old mountain charm and simple modern conveniences. It is a perfect retreat for anyone wanting to get away, unwind, relax and unplug. Refurbished into a modern-chic cottage, this 1940's farm house is nestled into an open, sun filled valley alongside a tranquil creek and duck pond. THE SPACE
This
spacious 1,250 sq ft, one story ranch house has an open floor plan with a kitchen, dining/living rooms and a study. There are two quiet and cozy bedrooms, each with closet space and dressers. There is a full en suite bathroom in the master bedroom, and another full bathroom that has a claw foot tub. The light-filled kitchen is fully equipped with appliances, cookware, and dishes. There's also some spices and sundries to get you started. Linens are provided for bed and bath. There's also a front load washer and dryer should you need to refresh your clothes supply. There is both central air conditioning and heat, depending on the season. Wireless internet is available for your devices, and you can stream to the smart TV using your movie media accounts. Or if you want a pause from technology, the house is stocked with old fashioned DVD's, books and games. Cell phone reception is generally good, but it can be spotty at times. Access to the house is via a short gravel road and there is plenty of parking space between house and studio. Note to motorcyclists riding the Parkway, there is an enclosed parking area in the back of studio building for parking bikes. There is also a hose area available for road cleanup after a day of riding on the Parkway. A list of available stores, restaurants, shopping, activities and basic needs is available for all guests. GUEST ACCESS
Guests have full access to the house and are encouraged to enjoy the gardens, creekside and around the pond located in front. Wander pathways through the fields of Carolina wild flowers and enjoy the scent of wild blackberry brambles in blossom. Picnic by the pond or creek side, or pick apples and grapes during harvest season. Savor a lazy morning on the front porch sipping coffee while listening to the rain on the tin roof or take an afternoon nap on the swing. Enjoy being surrounded by the magical light show during firefly season. It's truly extraordinary! INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
I live and work next door in the studio building which is a short walk from the house. Both buildings are private and separate. I'm happy to assist as needed, and I'm also happy to suggest and provide information about activities when planning your vacation. If you'd prefer, there is an Activities Information Book in the house referencing restaurants, events, shops, festivals, and local places of interest etc, for you to peruse on your own. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
The cottage is in a central location to many adventures depending on your fancy! To the east there is Linville Falls and caverns, Grandfather Mountain, Boone and Blowing Rock. To the west is Asheville, The Biltmore Estates, Craggy Gardens and Mount Mitchell. Locally you will find, downtown Spruce Pine, Burnsville, Wild Acres, Crabtree Falls, The Orchard at Altapass, and of course Penland School of Crafts which is just 12 miles away. Closer to home is downtown Little Switzerland with various restaurants, cafes and charming shops. There is a large artist community here with summer festivals and craft fairs to take in. It is also an area great for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, bicycling, motorcycling, gem mining, fishing, golfing, exploring and just generally taking in the view. There is much to choose from!
