We’re all pretty acutely aware of our stress these days, but we do tend to forget just how significantly damaging stress can be. The mental exhaustion caused by stress is usually obvious, but there are so many significant physical issues it causes as well.

Take some time out every day — force yourself — to take a break, breathe, meditate, go for a walk, listen to music, read a book or even take a nap.

🍕 What food are you eating for the Big Game? Be sure to have plenty of healthy options available; social eating situations often leave people with less desirable options for their dietary needs.

🍇 In addition to traditional food like chicken wings, burgers, nachos, fries, or other fried foods, consider more fruits, grains, and healthy alternatives to frying (air frying, baking, etc.). Have fun, and be healthy this February as a commitment to heart health for American Heart Month!

In 2020, 604,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer; 342,000 died from it.

The main cause of cervical cancer remains infection from the human papillomavirus (HPV). Vaccines can protect against this infection, and girls as young as 11-12 are encouraged to get the vaccine.

Early detection and vaccination availability make cervical cancer one of the most preventable and treatable forms of cancer. Read here for more resources: https://www.cancer.org/latest-news/special-coverage/cervical-health-awareness-month.html

Happy New Year! What can you do to be healthier in 2022?

"Eat better, exercise more and get more sleep!"

No matter how many times we have doctors and other health professionals beat these things into our heads, it doesn't make it any easier to follow through. So instead of the same repetitive tips on "how to be healthier in 2022" how about tips on how to follow through with the things you already know you need to do?

1. Give yourself a break. One of the reasons people get so frustrated with diet and exercise is the all-or-nothing mentality. Health isn't a linear path. It ebbs and flows. If you have a bad day, or a bad week, just take a breath and get back at it. No big deal.

2. Make small changes. We tend to think that going from 0 to 100 is the best way to accomplish a goal. But it's most successfully done through small, realistic changes. Make one healthy food substitution to start. Try taking a walk a few times a week. Give yourself 1 hour before bed with no screen time.

3. Make sure you know what success looks like for you. It's easy to say you want to be thinner, or healthier or sleep better. But what does that look like specifically? Is it walking up the stairs without feeling winded? Is it fitting into a pair of pre-pandemic jeans? Is it sleeping 6 hours uninterrupted?

The past couple of years, there have been a lot of things that have become more important to overall health. But one of the most important things is learning to cut yourself some slack. Life is extra stressful right now, and everyone's fighting some kind of internal battle. Be kind, take a breath, eat better when you can, and get up and move around whenever you get the chance. We'll get through 2022 and be better than ever.

On this unseasonably warm first day of winter, we wanted to share some tips for how to stay healthier for the rest of the season.

🧑‍⚕️ Prevent the spread of illness: Get vaccinated, wash your hands and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.

🏋️‍♂️ Stay active: Find a routine that works for the winter, if winter makes working out more difficult for you. Go for a walk during the warmer part of the day, find a close-by gym, find some video routines you can follow at home (even if it’s only 5-10 minutes at a time).

💤 Get plenty of sleep: The time change and shorter days can disrupt your sleep cycle. Be sure to be active during the day, get out in the sun when you can, don’t overload on screen time, and give yourself a dedicated time to shut down each night.

🩺 Schedule a wellness check: An annual wellness check through your doctor is important to catch underlying issues early and treat them. If you own a business, scheduling wellness events and screenings can be an important part of keeping your employees health and productive all year.

Send us a message if you’re interested in learning more about custom health screening events for your company.

Going into the new year, workplace health should be a top priority. Here's how you can ensure a healthier workplace for you and your coworkers or employees:

🖥️ Be sure that workstation ergonomics and health are a priority. Consider standing desks, ergonomic chairs, plants and air purifiers.

🍌 Make sure there are healthy food options readily available. It's easy to have vending machines that are filled by snack brands without regard to the health of your employees.

🧘 Encourage frequent breaks, walks, stretches and other activity. Sitting for extended periods is really bad for overall health and can be countered with several small activity breaks throughout the day.

🩺 Schedule regular health screening events for your employees. LifeHealth can help with all kinds of wellness events, from vision, to blood sugar and more. Send us a message! We can set up an event in your workplace that's customized to your space.
