With more than 18 years of tandem experience, Lynn Dexter & Patrick Gibbons are the founders of a very special bike shop called Tandem Cycle Works of Colorado. In 2006 we began leading tandems-only tours to share the fun of tandem riding with our customers. In 2014, Tandem Cycle Works was sold
to new owners so that we could focus more on our tours. We hope to share our passion for tandem travels with you and other cyclists. Ferry to Santorini from Crete today. We visited the Akrotiri archaeological site, thought to be part of the Minoan civilization from 5000 years ago. Then on to our hotel in Fira, overlooking the Caldera. Breathtaking!

Explore Portugal’s south-central lands and west coast with undulating wheat fields, cork and eucalyptus trees, olive orchards and vineyards. As the western outpost of continental Europe, this region harmonizes centuries of ancient, Roman, Arabic, Medieval and Renaissance influences, delicately framed by stunning beaches and endless blue sky.
Here are some reasons to visit!
-Portugal’s warm weather and year-round sun mean we are likely to enjoy great weather and mild temps, especially in the central and southern regions of the country where this tour takes us.
-Lisbon is one of the sunniest and safest European capitals. In 2023 Portugal was ranked as the seventh safest country in the world.
-Prices are much more reasonable here than in other parts of western Europe.
-Portugal is a destination offering rustic surroundings, modern amenities and luxury attractions. Medieval city walls, Moorish castles, Roman bridges and romantic palaces are just a few examples of the many historic treats in Portugal. This includes Évora, a medieval town that’s a stop on our journey of south-central Portugal.
-We are planning to coordinate this trip to coincide with the Sagres Bird Watching Festival at tour end. This is Europe’s largest birding festival and is much more than bird watching. It takes place in Sagres, once known as the « end of the world » when Portuguese seafarers ruled the waves.

Sicily Tandem Tour: Beautiful cycling from Modica to Noto today with stops for olive oil and granita tastings. Noto is full of beautiful baroque style and a gorgeous town!
Sicily Tandem Tour, Ragusa to Modica, 75 k:
Descending to the coast from Ragusa we passed by Donnafugata castle. After lunch in Scicli we made our way to Modica. We were treated to a chocolate tasting at the oldest chocolate producer in Sicily, Bonajuto’s. Yum!
Sicily Tandem Tour: We are now in eastern Sicily. Today’s ride took us from Vizzini to Ragusa. Great roads, no traffic, with about 700 m of climbing over about 55 k. Ragusa is a historic UNESCO site loaded with Baroque architecture.

Sicily Tandem Tour, Marsala to Menfi: 75 km. Riding along the coast today with lovely sea views. After lunch we made our way inland to Menfi where we stay 2 nights.

Today’s ride took us to Favignana, the largest of the 3 Egadi islands off the west coast of Sicily. Easy cycling around the island with lots of time for a swim, a nice seafood lunch and for an afternoon granita, a Sicilian specialty.
We started our 2-week Sicilan Tandem Tour today. Fifteen great teams from across the USA. Today we arrived in Castellamare and after buiding bikes, had a 16-mile warm up ride to a nearby Zingaro National Reserve.

Tandem Bicycle Tours heads to Sicily at the end of September with 15 tandem teams to enjoy all this wonderful island has to offer. Our last couple of days will be spent in Syracuse. Looking forward to exploring the culture, food and wines of Italy’s southernmost region.

Big Sur Tour, Avila Beach to Solvang, 50 mi, 2500 ft elevation. Starting from Avila Beach, we headed inland on our way to Solvang. Beautiful cycling through gorgeous green hills as we made our way to Solvang for the night.
Big Sur Tour day 3: A short ride today, 23 mi & 900 ft elevation, so we could spend the afternoon at Hearst Castle in San Simeon. The ride was spectacular! Amazing views from Ragged Point to Cambria with a stop to view the elephant seals along the way.
Big Sur Tandem Tour, Day 2: A 35-mi ride in 2 parts due to road closures on Highway 1 along the coast from all the rain in California this past winter. We started with a very scenic ride along the coast, then had to detour a bit to get to our final destination of Ragged Point. Still a great ride with perfect weather!
Tandem Bicycle Tours is cycling the Pacific Coast Highway this week with a great group of tandem teams. We kicked off the week with a stop at the Sea Otter Classic cycling event in Monterey. On our way out of town we stopped at the coffee shop called captain, and Stoker started by Tom Ritchie. Day 1 was a 43 mile ride from Monterey to Big Sur, with a bit of fog but SERIOUS tail winds! Woo hoo! A great first day for our weeklong trip.
