Day 1: CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
It’s difficult to get lost in Cape Town because gorgeous Table Mountain looms above the city as a reference. For breathtaking views, ride the cable car to the top, or explore this urbane city on foot. Visit the fascinating South African Museum and Planetarium and the culturally significant St. George’s Cathedral.

Day 2: MOSSEL BAY, SOUTH AFRICA
With an average of 320 sunny days a year, Mossel Bay has the second mildest climate in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Enjoy walks along the beautiful beaches, horseback riding and whale and dolphin watching. Track big game on a thrilling safari or take a cruise to Seal Island, populated by over 2,500 Cape fur seals.

Day 3: AT SEA

Day 4: DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA
British colonial architecture prevails in Durban, yet natural beauty is what characterizes this charming city on the Indian Ocean. Its Golden Mile beach area attracts sunbathers, of course, but also shoppers and those who enjoy walking the promenade. The Juma Masjid deserves a visit, as it's the largest mosque in the southern hemisphere.

Days 5 & 6: RICHARDS BAY, SOUTH AFRICA
Take an excursion to one of the nearby game reserves or simply gaze over the surrounding waters, where you might get a glimpse of dolphins, whales and kite-surfers. The best view is from the lookout point at Alkantstrand Beach. Richards Bay is a busy port and the myriad of specialized ships will intrigue marine buffs.

Day 7: MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE
Intent on recapturing its former glamour, Maputo once again attracts the rich and famous, whom you may see while sipping a cocktail at the extravagant Hotel Polana. Maputo's struggle for freedom from Portuguese colonialism is recounted in local museums.

Days 8 & 9: AT SEA

Day 10: MAYOTTE, FRENCH COMOROS
While the other islands of the fragrant Comoros (known as the "Perfume Islands") gained independence from France in 1975, Mayotte remained under French rule, and you'll welcome the influence. The Petit Terre district boasts fine patisseries, boutiques and art galleries, and there's a French flair everywhere.

Day 11: NOSY BE, MADAGASCAR
Lying off the northern coast of Madagascar, Nosy Be (which means "Big Island" in Malagasy) contains seven volcanic lakes and is blanketed with fragrant flora such as ylang-ylang, frangipani and vanilla. Unusual wildlife flourishes here, as witnessed in Lokobe Nature Reserve, home to maki lemurs, chameleons and paradise flycatchers.

Day 12: ANTSIRANANA, MADAGASCAR
Port Description Coming Soon

Day 13: AT SEA

Day 14: MAHE, SEYCHELLES
Gorgeous and romantic, the Seychelles define tropical beauty. A mountain range runs through the spine of Mahé, the largest island, and scenic national parks have sprung up around it, attracting hikers. Still, it's the idyllic beaches that have immortalized Mahé and its laid-back capital of Victoria, where the Seychellois speak a mellifluous Creole patois.

Day 15: LA DIGUE, SEYCHELLES
The most tranquil and relaxed of the Seychelles islands, La Digue allows you to step back in time, to appreciate a slower pace, to dive or snorkel the untouched reefs, enjoy the white sand beaches, hike into the stunning mountains of the interior for bird watching.

Days 16 - 18: AT SEA

Days 19 & 20: MALE, MALDIVES
As the capital of the low-lying, coral-bed Maldives, winsome Malé is surrounded by a sea wall, where you might watch the fishing dhonis return with the day's catch. Also be sure to see Friday Mosque, a masterpiece of filigree-curved coral built in the mid-1600s, and the Mulee-aage Palace.

Day 21: AT SEA

Day 22: MANGALORE, INDIA
Enjoy the beautiful beaches on the Arabian Sea, watch the fishing boats and explore the city, especially the 10th century Manjunatha Temple, St. Aloysius College Chapel, the Sultan Battery, Light House Hill Garden, Mangala Devi Temple and the Jumma Masjid. See a traditional South Indian dance performance or perhaps encounter a festival honoring a local deity.

Day 23: COCHIN (KOCHI), INDIA
Discover the amazing contrasts of this cosmopolitan, Portuguese-founded city with its lovely colonial architecture, Dutch-style palaces, historic churches, Jewish quarter and huge Chinese fishing nets. Or explore tranquil canals by boat and see ancient villages, exquisite scenery, plantations and temples. See Indian cotton made in traditional fashion.

Days 24 & 25: COLOMBO, SRI LANKA
Dotted with stately colonial buildings, Sri Lanka’s largest city is quite beautiful and wonderfully frenetic. Explore the museums and temples or watch cricket at Galle Face Green. If the thrilling energy of the city becomes too much, relax under a cinnamon tree in serene Viharamahadevi Park.

Day 26: HAMBANTOTA, SRI LANKA
Off the beaten path on the southern edge of Sri Lanka, Hambantota reveals verdant beauty, ample culture and incredible biodiversity. It’s a gateway to several stunning national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. Yala National Park is a top choice for its sheer variety of wildlife – you might spot elephants, leopards, sloth bears and more. The UNESCO World Heritage site of Galle is also accessible from Hambantota – the 18th-century walled Old Town features charming Dutch architecture and possesses a beguiling, exotic ambiance that enchants travelers. Mirijjawila Botanical Garden, located in the dry zone, features a dazzling spectrum of rare and endemic plant species.

Days 27 - 28: AT SEA

Days 29 & 30: PHUKET, THAILAND
Experience the many aspects of beautiful Phuket, from its lush landscape and gorgeous beaches to its 19th century Chinese and Western architecture and stunning temples. Visit the fascinating Sea Shell Museum, see the ornate Wat Chalong, watch elephants go through their paces at the elephant camp, and explore the unique and breathtaking Phang Nga National Park. Or just play on one of the island's fabulous beaches.

Day 31: PENANG, MALAYSIA
Visit a batik factory, a butterfly farm, a mosque, church and Indian temple, or just laze around on the beach. Hike the rainforest and waterfall-clad mountains that form the backdrop to the beautiful sandy beaches on the island known as "The Pearl of the Orient." The capital of the island was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its unique culture and architecture.

Day 32: KUALA LUMPUR, (PORT KLANG), MALAYSIA
Spend the day discovering this cosmopolitan city and its diversity of cultures, from the soaring Petronas Towers and the royal palace to Gothic churches, colonial remnants and a restored Malay timber house in a lovely heritage center. Experience everyday life as you browse the bustling markets and shops. Shopping: Shop for crafts, fine pewter, jewelry and batik.

Days 33 & 34: SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE
Discover a delightful city of contrasts, from its old Chinese quarter and colorful Hindu temples to its modern skyscrapers, famous Tiger Balm Gardens and magnificent National Orchid Garden. Stroll along the Esplanade. Take a short cruise along the Singapore River and a tri-shaw ride through town. Visit the Kranji Memorial and Changi Chapel and Memorial, dedicated to those who lost their lives here during World War II.

Sleek and elegantly charming, Insignia's decks are resplendent in the finest teak, custom stone and tile work, and her lounges, suites and staterooms boast luxurious, neo-classical furnishings. Insignia offers every luxury you may expect on board one of our stylish ships.

The House of Travelers officially boarded our Oceania Cruises ship... and after we fluffed up our hair, we hosted the traditional HOT Welcome Aboard Party! Check out these great shots of the House of Travelers' last days in Cape Town! We enjoyed a great steak lunch... Take a peek on the menu for the prices. To get the price in US Dollars, divide those numbers by 20-- it is an unbelievable bargain to be in this beautiful country!

Then we went back to our old standby, Gold, for a fun evening of African Music, Dancing, Food and Face Painting. Of course, we had to hit the Hotel Taj to meet Claire, Brenda's travel partner who helped with the scheduling. Our last day was spent walking around and having lunch at Pot Luck Club-- always a treat to enjoy one of the best meals anywhere in the world. Just more memorable days!!

VIETNAM & CAMBODIA REVEALED!

Prepare for an unforgettable journey through Vietnam, where you’ll uncover surprising discoveries as you travel over a thousand miles of the country’s breathtaking landscapes, savor delicious seafood and pho, and fill your days with adventure. Beginning or ending your cruise in Hanoi gives you time to explore the layered history of Vietnam’s capital. An overnight in Halong Bay gives you time to cruise on a junk boat, exploring the limestone rock formations of this UNESCO world heritage site. Explore the narrow lanes of Hanoi’s Old Quarter and colonial architecture of the French Quarter before moving on.

Da Nang, with its rich history and vibrant culture, is worth visiting for more than just its coastal beauty. Nearby you’ll find three UNESCO sites, including Hoi An Ancient Town, a tranquil 16th-century trading town where you can still walk or bicycle the picturesque lanes with nary a car in sight. Delve into Vietnam’s more recent past in Ho Chi Minh City, where French colonial architecture, traditional Vietnamese temples, and modern skyscrapers stand side-by-side with artifacts of the Vietnam War, like the Presidential Palace with a Communist tank still poised on the front lawn.

Another overnight stay here lets you get to know farmers and fishermen in the Mekong Delta, see the secretive Cu Chi Tunnels that played a crucial role in the Viet Cong’s 1975 victory. In addition to Vietnam, you will have several options to explore Cambodia, including a full-day visit to Phnom Penh or a 2-night tour to Angkor Wat. This cruise starts or ends in Bangkok, giving you an opportunity to experience one of Asia’s most vibrant cities.

DAY 1: HALONG BAY (HANOI)
Halong Bay is our gateway to Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam about 3.5 hours away but well worth the visit. Hanoi boasts a fascinating blend of East and West with lots of Chinese influences and French design. Highlights include the One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, Thirty-Six Streets District in Old Town Hanoi, and Hoa Lo Prison, known widely as the “Hanoi Hilton.” Explore the mystical landscape of Halong Bay by charming traditional fishing junk.

DAY 2: CRUISING HALONG BAY
Cruising through Halong Bay offers a mesmerizing experience, as you glide past its emerald waters, towering limestone karsts, and lush islands, immersing yourself in the serene beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage site. For a closer view of the limestone formations and to visit some of the islands, take a shore excursion on a junk boat during your stay in Halong Bay.

DAY 3: DA NANG
We’ll stay here overnight to explore three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. My Son Sanctuary is Vietnam’s most important Champa ruin dating back to the 4th century. The imperial city of Hue is the spiritual heart of Vietnam and home to Nguyen Dynasty emperors. Admire the beauty of Hue’s bridges, canals, and lakes. And Hoi An is a tranquil 16th-century trading town that has changed little over the centuries. Walk over the 400-year-old covered bridge, pausing to ponder the dog and monkey statues guarding either end.

DAY 4: CHAN MAY (HUE), VIETNAM
Hue, located near the port of Chan May, is a city rich in history and culture, once the imperial capital of Vietnam. Known for its ancient citadel, royal tombs, and stunning pagodas, Hue offers a glimpse into the country’s royal past. Visitors can explore the UNESCO-listed Imperial City, the serene Thien Mu Pagoda, and the elaborate tombs of past emperors, making it a fascinating destination for history and culture enthusiasts.

DAY 6: CRUISING SAIGON RIVER
Cruising the Saigon River offers a unique perspective of Ho Chi Minh City, as you sail past bustling waterfronts, scenic landscapes, and vibrant local life, blending urban energy with natural beauty.

DAYS 6 & 7: HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM
Spend the day exploring the Cu Chi Tunnels where the Viet Cong based their insurgency. Delve into Vietnamese traditions in the villages of the Mekong Delta. Or stay close to your elegant ship enjoying the city’s French colonial flare, maybe bartering for conical hats and form-fitting ao dai (traditional Vietnamese tunic) at the market.

DAY 9: SIHANOUKVILLE (PHNOM PENH), CAMBODIA
Sihanoukville serves as a gateway to Phnom Penh, offering a convenient starting point to explore Cambodia's vibrant capital, rich in history, culture, and iconic landmarks such as the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, and the poignant Killing Fields. Sihanoukville is also a launching point to Kampot, known for its pepper plantations.

DAY 10: KO KOOD, THAILAND
Ko Kood, Thailand's tranquil paradise island, is renowned for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, lush jungles, and serene atmosphere, making it the perfect location for Windstar’s Signature Beach Barbeque.

DAY 11: CRUISING CHAO PHRAYA RIVER
Cruising the Chao Phraya River offers a scenic journey through Bangkok, providing stunning views of historic temples, grand palaces, and vibrant local life along the riverbanks.

DAY 11: BANGKOK
Known for its beautiful ornate shrines and temples and vibrant street life, Bangkok is one of the top cities in the world to visit. Your ship is docked as close to Bangkok as any ship can get. Highlights include the Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Arun, and the Floating Market. Extend your stay to include the overland Angkor Wat/Cambodia tour.

I AM SO ALL OVER THIS!!! OVER THE MOON!!!!!

We just did a Windstar Panama Canal cruise this past new years and it was a major success! SO DOG GONE FUN!

LATE POST! Brenda and Rick were off to South Africa on Emirates 380... Wow, what a plane and lounge!!!

At both SFO and Dubai you are never back in the airport-- you board through the lounge. A 16 hour flight is helped by a stand up bar in the back. They found fellow international travelers with interesting stories, these young men from India and Iran had many of the same philosophies on life.

After a short stay and shower at Dubai, they enjoyed a great Indian dinner in preparation for the 8 hour hop to Cape Town and arrival at Franschhoek to experience the beautiful wine region. But, of course before they could do that, Brenda had to sample the local gin and tonic!

Day 4: Mompox
A town frozen in time, Mompox embodies the appearance of what many villages looked like during colonial times. Founded in 1540, this remote village became an important Spanish trading post. Some Spaniards found Mompox to be a haven for keeping gold and other treasure protected from the pirates that pillaged coastal cities like Cartagena, and with this precious metal and the work of skilled artisans from Spain came beautifully crafted artifacts. Since then, the town has become famous for its incredible filigree jewelry, which you can learn more about during your tour of this tour in the afternoon. While visiting this unique island, journey through the incredible ecological Cienega Pijiño region, exploring the massive lake that is home to a variety of flora and fauna native to the region. In the afternoon, take a stroll through this storied town on a guided walking tour. With stunning colonial churches, breathtaking nature surrounding the town, and delicious local delights such as capa cheese and butifarra, Mompox is sure to be a highlight of your journey along the magnificent Magdalena River. Day 5: Mompox - El Blanco
Bid farewell to Mompox before embarking on a scenic cruise down one of the most breathtaking stretches of the Magdalena River – a picturesque part of the La Mojana Region – and reaching the town of El Banco, nestled at the intersection of the Magdalena and César rivers. Founded in a location strategic for both the native people and the Spaniards, the town was repeatedly destroyed in their struggles and then rebuilt atop its ashes. In 1749, a freed black slave named José Domingo Ortiz led a group of settlers to this special location, carrying with him a statue of the Virgin Mary, staking this place as their new home. Because of this connection, the Virgin of Candelaria, a special invocation of the Virgin Mary, is specially venerated in this region. Embark on a guided walking tour of this incredible destination and learn more about its history as the birthplace of cumbia, an iconic genre of music and dance that has now been popularized around the world. What began as a courtship dance practiced by African slaves later incorporated American steps and European and African instruments has become a world-wide sensation, which is especially popular in the Andean region of Colombia. In the evening, enjoy an exclusive dinner in town and witness an incredible cumbia performance by locals.

Day 6: Manangue
Witness the sights, hear the bird calls, and watch the wildlife around you as we spend the beginning of the day docked near Magangue. Immerse yourself in the presence of Colombian nature surrounding this city on a birdwatching tour, giving you a unique opportunity to see birds only found in this specific part of the country. You can also take a hiking tour through the picturesque Ciénaga, teeming with Colombian life. Later in the day, visit Calamar. Located at the entrance of the Canal del Dique, this town was first settled in 1840. Witness historic sites such as the Iglesia de la Inmaculada Conception as you tour this beautiful destination by paola (a bicycle taxi for two).

Day 7: Cartagena
Take the day to delight in the beautiful coastal city of Cartagena. Many Spaniards flocked to this location when they heard tales of gold found in the tombs of indigenous leaders, expanding this small port into a thriving city. Start your day by exploring the incredible UNESCO-designated San Felipe Castle, the fortress that defended Cartagena from French and British attacks. As you continue to tour the city, you may witness iconic landmarks such as the Cathedral de Cartagena or the stone walls built to protect the city from the plundering of pirates, although they did not stop Sir Francis Drake from holding the city for ransom in 1586. Delve deeper into the enriching history of this Caribbean city as you briefly visit the Gold Museum, which features ancient gold artifacts from the indigenous cultures found in this region, and the Caribbean Naval Museum. In the afternoon, enjoy a tour through the breathtaking Getsemaní neighborhood. With the vibrant colors of the homes and street art as well as the mouthwatering local delicacies that can be found throughout the area, this historic neighborhood will delight all your senses. In the evening, watch the sun set on Cartagena from the deck of your stunning AmaWaterways ship.
