At Jay Bear’s Retreat we aim to give our guest a unique vacation experience. Located less than 50 minutes from downtown Columbus in Hocking Hills, this beautiful 20 acre property immerses you in nature. Nestle into a quaint cabin and escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. Soon you will be able to experience the outdoors at new heights in one of our treehouse cabins.

While the treehouse cabins provide a unique getaway for all, we have a very special mission at Jay Bear’s Retreat: “Giving families of special needs children the opportunity to make memories while enjoying all nature has to offer.” Our son, nicknamed Jay Bear, was born 14 weeks premature and spent the first 5 months of his life in the NICU. Our family knows first hand how important it is to spend time together, but how difficult it can be with so many doctor and therapy appointments. Once a month we will offer a family with a special needs child a free getaway to make new memories that will last a lifetime. As we grow, we plan to expand and use a portion of the rental income to build a third treehouse that will be used 100% for these special families.

We want to give a big heartfelt thanks for your support in our first year at Jay Bear's Retreat! Together, we provided free trips for multiple special needs families, upheld the tradition of the girl scouts troop weekend, and raised $1,000 towards cancer research at the James Cancer Hospital. Here's to a remarkable first year!

We are heartbroken for this family. This was one of our special families that we were trying to line up a time to stay at the cabin. Unfortunately, their daughter passed away unexpectedly recently. They have a gofundme set up to help with some of the cost of the funeral service. If you are able, please consider helping this family out. They have gone through so much in just over a year and every little bit helps.

Here are some FAQs we are receiving lately:

Q: Is Jay Bear’s Retreat only available to families with a special needs child?
A: No, anyone can book a stay! These bookings will help to fund future development of locations and allow us to invite families to stay. Once a month we will offer a family with a special needs child a free stay to make new memories together!

Q: How does someone sign up or nominate a family for a free stay?
A: With so much interest we will be doing random draws every few months to give families some advance notice to plan their stay. People can just shoot us a message to have a family added to the list. Please include a parent name, family size, city, and a little bit about why they would benefit from a stay.

These homes hidden in the trees will be nothing short of luxurious.
