This really is one you don't want to miss when you're visiting the Hocking Hills region. The lower gorge trail is stroller and wheelchair friendly throughout most of it. You can do this hike in about an hour. The lower gorge trail takes you into the Hollow. The upper rim trail is more challenging and requires many steps.

Here's an old article before Hocking Hills became what it is today. In 1939 local officials decided to promote visitors to the area through a campaign. It was their goal to have a million visitors by 1940. With the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps, trails, bridges, tunnels, and shelter houses were built to enhance the parks that were managed by the forest service. These improvements helped to make the parks more accessible to visitors and what it is today.

Forbes named Hocking Hills one of the top 50 places to visit in the world in 2023 and with about 5 million visitors annually and truly stunning year round, Hocking Hills is a special place thanks to the people that preserved the trails and made them as accessible as they are. 13,000 acres, multiple open caves and waterfalls, state forests, equestrian and ATV trails, rock face, scenic drives, repelling and more. It is considered the #1 state park in Ohio and in my opinion, rivals most national parks in terms of awe and beauty.

We are so fortunate to have this right here in the southeastern part of Ohio. Hocking Hills is within one day's drive to more than 60% of the U.S. population. It is recognized by one of the best destinations in America.
