Family travel never gets old, no matter the group's ages!

Our clients came to us wanting to do something unique for their daughter's college graduation. They wanted a balanced mix of daily activities and downtime with moments for authentic connection. A private 6-night charter through the British Virgin Islands checked every box (and then some!).

Is planning your family's next adventure on your to-do list? Let's chat; we'd love to help you kick off the dreaming & scheming 📧 [email protected]

An absolute must do when you explore the island of Yakushima? Trekking through the Yakusugi cedars.

Among the massively impressive ancient cedars, some as old as 1,800 years (!), I couldn't help but recall the redwoods in California. But here you'll find far less crowds & pavement and instead, more zen & thoughtful pathways. With trails ranging in duration from 50 minutes to 8 hours, there are options for everyone to get out and enjoy the pristine forested land.

Today marks the third anniversary of one of my best friends and an ultimate world explorer’s passing. As I woke up in the rural countryside outside of Kyoto, I just couldn’t help but smile. My Grandma Judy loved her trip to Japan many years ago and always felt connected to the people and culture here. I can of course see and feel her everywhere we go now. Especially in the natural politeness and generosity of the people we have met.

So as we all embark on a fresh new summer season, let this be the reminder you need today to be more like Judy!

Travel often, explore with purpose and share your experiences with those around you. This cycle can heal the world, I have little doubt. 🌞🤍🕊️ We love you Grandma!

My time thus far in Japan has been unlike anything I've ever experienced.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to tour the rugged coastline of Kyotango and the iconic boathouses in Ine. Ine lies on the coast of the Sea of Japan and is famous for its wooden boathouses, or "funaya."

Long ago this town was cut off by the steep mountains behind, making it accessible only by sea. The garages at the bottom of their houses opened to the sea. Farmers would fish at the crack of dawn and tend to their rice fields or mend their nets in the afternoon.

Completely shut off to the world for centuries they were an island to themselves. It is part of the incomparable energy & charm of staying here and something you just have to see and experience yourself!

While in Greece, we've enjoyed visiting the storied ancient sites. The best way to get the most out of touring historic destinations is to engage the expertise of a vetted private guide. This was so apparent to us as we explored the splendor of classical Athens and the iconic expressions of Greek culture.

Private guides who are tried-and-true professionals elevate your interface with historical sites and the current culture surrounding them. Our local partners provide experiences that are tailored and personal, well beyond a cookie-cutter approach.

Thinking about getting away to experience something new-to-you, but rich in history? Let us show you how to get the most out of your next trip!

In a few weeks, I’ll be packing my carry-on again! I can’t wait to share more about where I’m headed and what I’ll be up to, but in the meantime, enjoy this personal list of goodies landing in my early summer carry-on 🧳

1. scarf | one of my very favorite summer travel companions; versatile, practical and adds an element of style to any ensemble.

2. moisturizer stone | this one is a game-changer and such a luxurious treat after a long travel day.

3. comfy joggers | for men & women - one can never be too cozy on a cold aircraft and they also come in handy for chillier mornings on the ground.

4. chic tech kit | crucial for keeping tech accessories organized in one easy-to-reach place without tangles or damage.

5. sleep support | this time-released, three-in-one is my tried & true.

6. compression socks | energize tired legs and promote blood flow back to your heart preventing the post-flight swell.

7. sunscreen | sunscreen on a mission without any harmful junk for you or the planet (and it feels amazing on your skin!)

8. packing cubes | because maximizing the carry-on is always goal #1.

9. shirt | this made-from-recycled-content shirt is so smart: uber-comfy, quick-drying and odor-controlling. A true travel no-brainer.

10. swimsuit | don’t miss a beat if your checked bag is delayed (hey, it happens!) & throw your suit in your carry-on.

11. spill proof water bottle | best. one. ever. plus 1% for the planet 🌎

12. electrolytes | hydration is a MUST always while traveling, but especially in the summer months. Adding electrolytes to your water in-flight can help reduce bloat, prevent swelling & boost energy.

It’s time to start packing!

Sustainable travel is a passion around here and something I dedicate considerable time and efforts to learn and connect with others who have tangible action plans to make real impact in this space.

In the spirit of sustainability and the official marking of 🌎 Earth Day 🌎 , I wanted to highlight a property I met with recently. is located in Tipperary, Ireland and boasts impressive efforts on property and in the community to combat climate change and reduce waste.

A few highlights of their practices:

🌍 NZEB ( ) status for the newer parts of the property
💧 onsite water well for the hotel's and guests' needs
🌾 a resident garbage guzzler that gratefully digests all food waste, transforming it into rich compost used to nourish their gardens
🥕 hyper-local food sourcing within county boarders and onsite gardens / greenhouses
🌿 many of Tipperary’s excellent food producers are members of , the world’s only food and drink sustainability program
🐝 Cashel Palace’s gardens are proud to be part of the All Ireland Pollinator Program

PS - Their onsite restaurant was recently awarded a star.

Is traveling with a lighter footprint important to you?

Our journey through the US Southeast is coming to an end in our south-eastern-most state of Florida. The and are no-fail-fan-favorites of Solas Travels' clients! For families looking to escape, unplug and reconnect (with each other!), these two properties check every box.

Image 1 | Ritz- Carlton Luxury & Service: the newly-opened Vanderbilt Tower, a 14-story addition that seamlessly connects to the original, Italianate-inspired structure. The $100M-post-Hurricane Ian renovation has given this country-club-vibe resort a new spring in its step.

Images 2 & 3 | Fresh Accommodations: queen / queen guestroom and the Royal Suite dining area .

Image 4 | The largest Ritz-Carlton club floor in North America, marked by dedicated service as well as four daily buffet presentations. A cookie bar, conveniently located at the front of the club, is a delight — as is the full-service bar, where complimentary Champagne tastings are sometimes held, no sign-up required 🍾

Image 5 | The pools at both locations will not disappoint, but the impressive waterslides are a kiddie-crowd-pleaser, providing hours of fun-filled, sun-soaked entertainment. And don't miss the two Greg Norman-designed golf-courses.

Image 6 | This is where you can find mom & dad (sigh of relaxation) , private-cabana poolside . Bonus of booking with - they can use their resort credit for added fun poolside!

Exploring all of the impressive cultural and natural beauty of Rwanda has been such a treat. One thing that has impressed me the most so far in my journey is the connection between the people and their land. A case in point: & his restaurant in Kigali focuses intently on locally grown & harvested produce while also placing an emphasis on engagement with his community.

As Chef beautifully puts it: “Food doesn’t have borders. Food is education, food is sharing.”

He lives this philosophy in everything he does, starting a Pan African Culinary Village in Rwanda, a first-of-its-kind food innovation space to host culinary research, a restaurant, and an experimental farm. Their aim is to accelerate food-related solutions to the climate crisis. His work is not only incredibly innovative and interesting, it's deeply inspiring ✨

I'm 🛫 wheels up 🛫 for a true bucket list adventure & educational trip to East Africa in just a few days and I'm pretty excited about the packing. When you have 33 lbs max allowance between your carry on & duffel, it's all about the strategy!

I always take mental notes when seeing how others pack so here are some of my favorite things traveling with me!

1. Human Made Hat (who doesn't love a good & effortlessly fun accessory?)

2. Scarf / Bandana (the softer, the better)

3. Sunglasses that protect from sun's strong glare, do not slide & hide your tired eyes for early morning drives

4. Boots for Trekking! And I very rarely travel without a pair of Blundies!

5. Protective pants for trekking and versatile enough to be worn several other times throughout the trip.

6. We love Jungmaven at home so why wouldn't I wear it while traveling? Their shirts are perfect for layering.

7. Sunblock - and plenty of it (travel sized of course)

8. Garden Gloves! Specifically for days out gorilla trekking, these are a must to protect from nettles.

9. We all have our travel pet peeves and one of mine is rather particular - I can't stand dry eyes. Rohto drops are always in my bag, no matter where I go.

It's no secret knows a thing or two about luxury hospitality and it's no surprise their Park City resort, , garnered well-earned accolades in 2023. Boasting the Lavazza, "One to Watch Award" from the World's 50 Best Hotels and Forbes Travel Guide, and most likely seen all over your screen as you scrolled this season - this one really is a winner.

There is so much to love about this property, especially for the wellness and adventure-driven at heart. You can literally do it all at Blue Sky: from a cold plunge experience with a Wim Hof guide to learning the regenerative practices of Gracie’s Farm - yes, please 🙋! Of course, the resort also offers the usual repertoire of horseback riding, fly fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, trekking, climbing, and exploring in one of our country's most breathtaking landscapes.

While there is much to adore about , what we love most is its alluring invitation for quality time over a weekend getaway with your partner or traveling with larger extended family. We'd love to hear what intrigues you the most about this gem and how we can help you plan your next getaway in Park City or beyond 🛫

announced the top twenty-four places to visit in 2024 and we narrowed it down to our top destinations from their well-curated list! If you're adding one of these dreamy destinations to your bucket list, I know someone who can help with all of the details 😉 Here you go with the," where to go?" . . .

From Condé Nast Traveler:
1. NORTHERN RIVERS, Australia 🏄‍♂
Go for: adaptive surfing, immersive hiking, and stylish ranches.
Made up of a patchwork of coastal towns and linked via scenic drives that take you along stunning Pacific beaches, lush valleys, and rainforests, this region has long been a popular destination for road-tripping, surfing, and trekking.

2. YORKSHIRE, United Kingdom 🍴
Go for: star chefs leading a foodie revolution.
And Yorkshire has some of the most seductive nature: sweeping landscapes like living oil paintings; undulating dales and peaks; deep-forested moors with big skies; heady lavender fields; lofty woodlands filled with birdsong; and golden sandy sweeps skirting the peppermint-blue sea. The Brontës’ romanticism is not lost.

3. OKAVANGO DELTA, Botswana 🦓
Go for: a watershed moment for exclusive camps in a unique landscape.
A wave of new safari lodges—including a two-years-only temporary camp—make a visit to the Okavango Delta more desirable, and pressing, than ever.

4. KOBE, Japan 🗾
Go for: high design with a sense of place.
Though Kobe's richest pleasures are earthly—beef, sake, and hot springs, for starters—the view from Kobe Port Tower, which will reopen in early 2024, lets travelers take the city in from above.

5. GUATEMALA 👩‍🎨
Go for: new cruises leading to ancient ruins, and a burst of artsy openings.
Across the country, new art, cultural, and community spaces beg travelers to venture beyond ancient ruins like Tikal—and stay awhile.
