Did you know that October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month?
Below is some Important security information for travelers to consider:
Documenting vacation through photos and videos to share on social media is common, however there may be some risks when sharing trip details online. Since October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, I am sharing some tips for you to be aware of for future vacations.
• Avoid sharing any photos or videos of travel documents such as boarding passes, passports, itineraries displaying confirmation numbers since cybercriminals could potentially access personal information including your full name, address, phone numbers, frequent flyer/travel rewards account numbers and more.
• Avoid posting about upcoming travel dates or real-time location sharing on social media as this may inform thieves that your home is vacant.
• Consider privately sharing trip details with ‘close friends’ only on social media or wait to share when back home.
• Ask loved ones or any travel companions to avoid posting about trip details as well.
Reminder - Be sure to back up and set up ‘Find My’ services on any digital devices you plan to carry on before taking off—if any of your devices are lost or stolen during the trip, the damage will be kept to a minimum. Purchase an insurance plan with 24/7 assistance services that can help with any lost or stolen electronic devices, flight and hotel rebooking, lost baggage tracking, passport replacement and more.
