Home Sweet Home Community Mural

Home Sweet Home Community Mural West End Arts, Visual Artist Guild of Long Beach NY presents:
Repurposing the Boardwalk into a Community Art installation.

West End Arts (WEA) is pleased to present “Home Sweet Home”, a collaborative art project by and for the community of Long Beach. “Home Sweet Home” is a mural created from repurposed pieces of wood from Long Beach's previous boardwalk that was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy. In September 2013, WEA invited the community to the first “Home Sweet Home” painting event which took place at Kennedy Plaza d

uring Arts in the Plaza. Each community member that attended was given a cleaned, sanded and primed piece of original boardwalk wood to paint and express what the idea of home means to them. All paints and art materials were provided to the participants by WEA. These pieces were then used to create the first panel in the “Home Sweet Home” series. We will have 10 panels created and they will travel to sponsor locations for one month until we have our location given to us by the City of LB. We will continue to create panels if and when wood comes to us by residents donate, this will allow us to create even more art work that can hang at city hall, train station, etc. This project needs the community support to happen to the fullest. Thank you for taking the time and creating this art installation!
