The literary icon of Colombia, Gabriel García Márquez never thought it could be done…100 Years of Solitude performed by actors.
Netflix figured it out, and the 8-episode first season is being released today.
I can wait to see how they recreated his magical realism without a lot of special effects.

The first-ever screen adaptation will be released this week — a feat even the author didn’t think possible. We traveled to the set in Colombia to see how it was done.

When I talk to people about Colombian art, MANY people know the name Fernando Botero. When we go to Medellín, Antioquía on our tours, we visit Plaza Botero with 32 of his sculptures!
If you're in Colorado, you can get a first glance at his work with the permanent sculptures at the DCPA.

Fernando Botero Angulo (born 19 April 1932) is a Colombian figurative artist and sculptor, born in Medellín. His signature style, also known as "Boterismo", depicts people and figures in large, exaggerated volume, which can represent political criticism or humor, depending on the piece. He is consi...

Here’s a snippet of the latest,

“Here are the 🔐Top 5 Safety Tips for Travel that we share in our resources:
👉Use a luggage lock. It’s so much easier to lock your valuables in a suitcase and not have to worry about forgetting them in the room safe, or the room safe’s battery dying.
👉Use a flashlight or headlamp in the dark in big cities, rather than your cell phone flashlight. That way your cell phone can be tucked away, out of sight of thieves.
👉Get trip insurance, even if you only insure part of the cost of your trip or buy annual insurance. This summer I was reimbursed $200 for a trip delay in Des Moines. It’s helpful for both domestic and international travel! https://vivemastours.com/selecting-trip-insurance
👉Take a photo of your passport ID page and email it to yourself. That way you have access to the photo anywhere in the world, if they have wifi.
👉Take probiotics before, during, and after the trip. You’ll be exposed to new bacteria that are different than home. Your gut will thank you!”

I shared about the situation in Cuba on Zoom last night, but if you missed it, here's a short version of the presentation!
All is good, our travelers had a normal (and vibrant) experience of Havana.

Cuba has been in the news a lot for the power grid failure, then Hurricane Rafael came barreling through Havana. We had a tour group planned, which we delaye...

From Jenny Desmond-
Have you seen the word, “Cuba” in the media more than usual over the last two weeks?

With all the news about Cuba, I decided to join our “4 Nights in Havana” tour to see exactly how the travel experience would be for our guests after the Category 3 hurricane on Wednesday. I got home last night.

It really surprised me! We arrived on Friday, two days after the storm. The rains were gone, roads were fine, and things were open for business.

Our casa particular (B&B) is so prepared that we didn’t even have any power outages. In contrast, we met travelers staying at state-run hotels that didn’t have it so easy, because they don’t have the investment that the small business owners make to keep the guest experience comfortable.

Tonight, I am hosting a Zoom to share what Cuba is like RIGHT NOW, and answer all your questions. The first half hour will be Cuba, then second half hour will be Colombia.

You are invited!

6 pm MST/8 pm EST https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIld-uqqz0sGN2rEGD0nNjM7v_UyDtYMaHP

If you can’t make it, I hope to send the recording in my 🌴email on Saturday (sign up for that here: http://eepurl.com/ihngFr

Or, if you’re thinking about Colombia in February or April, the second half-hour will be just for you!

Hasta pronto!

Yummmm! Today was the first time we ate here on a tour, and they knocked it out of the park!
BBQ ribs were slow cooked and had a special Cuban BBQ sauce. The black beans were magical, grilled veggies, and a delicious sparkling lemonade to top it off.
is just a block from the Museo de la Revolución, and we’ll be back!

From Jenny,
“I’m having a GREAT TIME with our tour in Cuba right now. We delayed the trip because of Hurricane Rafael earlier this week. It’s surprising how quickly the broken branches are being cleaned up!
Life at our casa, favorite restaurants, etc is terrific as always.
I can’t wait to post photos and videos. The internet is pretty slow, just like in parts of Colombia, so it might wait a couple days.“
