Next stop, Bonito Campground in Flagstaff, AZ. Stuebe’s favorite campground in Flagstaff that he wanted to share with BEA and team. A little piece of paradise… dry camping only. Met a lovely couple who had their 1990, 29 foot Excella parked a couple spots away. Introduced us to a new wine!

Driving the barren land in Arizona and stumbled upon these… The Elephant's Feet are pair a mountain pillars that stand out from the flatlands on the Navajo Nation. To everyone who sees these formations, they look just like their name: Elephant's Feet.
The Elephant's Feet climb to 5,502 feet (1,677.01 meters) above sea level.
Located along Highway 160, at Tonalea some 20 miles east of Tuba City on the Navajo Nation Reservation - approaching Monument Valley on the border of Arizona/Utah.

Four Corners, Navajo Nation Tribal Monument. The departure from Target Tree Campground in Colorado to our next destination in Arizona, some pit stops along the way, this being our first.The DOT team tried to go here last year, but due to the COVID outbreak in the Navajo tribe, they closed the monument until things got under control. It was quite a wonderful monument and both BEA and DOT teams were happy to explore.

Day trip exploring the towns of Mancos and Cortez. Just a snippet of some of the murals in both towns as well as the best liquor store and sign EVER. Needless to say, the DOT team has visited this location before and we’re excited to share this little liquor store oasis with the BEA team. Let’s get our priorities straight here… and we can’t forget the adorable little airstream coffee shop in Cortez, Silver Bean!

Mesa Verde National Park. A visit to see the cliff dwellings. The cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde are some of the most notable and best preserved in the North American Continent. Sometime during the late 1190s, after primarily living on the mesa top for 600 years, many Ancestral Pueblo people began living in pueblos they built beneath the overhanging cliffs. The structures ranged in size from one-room storage units to villages of more than 150 rooms. While still farming the mesa tops, they continued to reside in the alcoves, repairing, remodeling, and constructing new rooms for nearly a century. By the late 1270s, the population began migrating south into present-day New Mexico and Arizona. By 1300, the Ancestral Puebloan occupation of Mesa Verde ended.
