San Pedro’s Famous Three-Eyed Fish Mural—painted in 1991 by local artist Dave Butkus—is a beloved piece of street art that originated as a spontaneous response to the harbor's heavy pollution at the time. Located at 38th and Gaffey, the mural humorously imagines what kind of creature might survive in such toxic waters. Though originally anonymous and expected to be short-lived, the fish quickly became a local icon, repeatedly restored by the community and embraced as a symbol of both environmental awareness and San Pedro’s quirky character. It has since appeared on local merchandise and remains a grassroots landmark. While often compared to "Blinky," the three-eyed fish from The Simpsons, Butkus created the mural independently and without influence from the show.

Mystery of the Decapitated Palm Trees
In 1990, as the story goes, Stephen Ragsdale, better known as Desert Steve and former landowner of Desert Center, CA, planted hundreds of date palms to beautify the area. He arranged them in unique shapes - triangles, circles, and a few secret patterns only visible from the air - supposedly to signal aliens. Some like to believe his plan worked and the aliens took the palm fronds with them. Others think the palms were simply neglected, rotted, and eventually fell off. What do you think?

Omega Mart by Meow Wolf
The #1 supermarket in the "worlds" is something straight out of the fifth dimension of the "Twilight Zone." It looks very normal at first glance, but a closer investigation will reveal some disturbing oddities - a stack of zucchinis that allow you to view another universe, canned rabbit shards and mammoth meat, a deli section with tattooed fresh whole chicken, a cold section selling robot milk...the endless wonders here require at least a couple of hours to look at. You'll want to read every bottle, every label, find every portal (hint, look in the refrigerated section). This giant art installation is part of the Meow Wolf arts and entertainment group based out of Santa Fe.

Originally built in Culver City by a silent film studio, this creepily quirky “Witch’s house” was transported to, of all places, Beverly Hills when talkies became all the rage and the studio went belly-up. The home’s curvy lines, though, appear a bit more Gaudi that Grimm. Definitely one to ...

McBride Trail Loop
The McBride Trail Loop is a very popular 1.8-mile loop that should take around an hour to complete. Start by parking at the end of Ocean Terrace Drive and you'll see the trailhead at the end of the road. The first half of the trail is on dirt and is approximately 1 mile. You'll pass by a bunch of really nice houses on the left with ocean views to the right. When you reach the end, make a left onto Crest Road, and in about 500 feet, make another left on Highridge Road. To finish, make an immediate right onto the Crooked Patch Trail, just off of Highridge Road and follow that for 0.5 miles back to your car.
