I was asked recently what is the difference between a mentalist and a magician.
Magician: The audience accepts that everything is based on trickery or sleight of hand. The audience thinks "How did you do that?!"

Mentalist: The audience questions if there is some truth behind the method (can they really read my mind or did they really influence me). The audience thinks "How did they know that?!"
