For those who have not met her (a true shane) this is Avril Annette Couris (née Johnson), my amazing mother, my friend, my confidant, my everything…Most importantly, she is hilarious, ridiculous and always fun to hang out with. There’s nothing conventional about her as she continues to work, go to the gym and run circles around everyone. She really is the BEST. I’m a lucky girl. So here’s to Ave!! The one and only. 💪🏽🩷 And Happy Mother’s Day! (of course, she won’t see this because she’s not on IG. I told you she’s smart!)

IT'S OUR ANNIVERSARY!
As we celebrate nine years as Couris Group (and many more in the business), we can honestly say that one truth remains constant... People matter most and relationships trump everything.
Trends and tides change, but without our creative and joyful staff and the collaborative clients we’ve been lucky to work with, none of our work would resonate the way it does, or be as fun!

Japan, Part 3. Kyoto. We only had two days here which is not enough. We will be back. Wonderful city. Just beautiful. We walked for hours (35k+ steps one day) and enjoyed great meals. Like everywhere else in Japan, the shopping and restaurants are endless. Loved our hotel too - check out .

A lot was packed into 2022. Big projects and big changes. Lots of living and loving and sadly, deep loss. I cannot say that I am thankful for all of it, but I am fortunate to be surrounded in life and work by people who are all-in for the joy and the pain. And for that, I am truly thankful. So here’s to us and all of you. Let’s pack 2023 with more of what we need and less of what we just put up with!

On December 19, 2000, my mom sent my roommate Melissa a present in this box. Melissa then reused it to send a Christmas present to her childhood nanny. A few years later, her nanny sent Melissa a present in this exact same box with all the original labels intact. We could not believe it. Since then, my mom, Melissa and I have sent one another presents out of the blue in this same box. Today is my birthday and before I even unwrapped the brown paper, I knew what it was. Same label, same tissue paper. Thank you mom. ❤️ We intend to keep surprising one another and thinking of Mel 📪💌

IT’S A WRAP! The 2022 TCM Classic Film Festival is official in the rear view. It was a monster to wrestle after a 3-year hiatus, Covid still crashing the party, a large number of new staff all around, and venues under staffed. To the guests however, it was a movie miracle, full of gratitude and joyful participation. Our crew were rockstars. A special shout out to Cassidy, Ashley, Mike, Mark, Sara and the ever present Leslie! And welcome to the powerhouse newbies too! Hope to see your smart selves next year. Goodbye Roosevelt Hotel! I feel as if I’ve been passed through a paper shredder but I am thrilled it was such a success. 🌈🎥❤️🎬🕺🏻

The older I get, the less certain I feel about any convictions I once held. I often find myself saying “but what do I know?” However, one thing I know to my core is that relationships are everything. The people you chose to surround yourself with and how you treat everyone (even those you’d perhaps like to punch in the throat), those relationships will define your life, your work, your joy and your sanity. The people I am lucky enough to work with on the TCM Film Festival are the best example of strong relationships breeding good work, good times and (the second thing I know) lots of laughter as the best medicine. Here’s to 2022! 🌈🎬🍾

My original selfie partner. Back before we had iPhones, my dad and I would goof off with cameras and each other often. He would have been 88 today. I love him, I miss him and I am lucky to have a lifetime of memories to keep me company. It’s not the same but it’s a lot. Here’s to George!! 🍷 ❤️❤️❤️

7 years. Hard to believe… My dad always loved me exactly as I am. He never wanted to change or influence my life and I always felt adored and welcome. He also loved skiing, going to the ballet, classical music, smoking his pipe, Campari, the 49ers, black coffee, his 1997 Lexus and a good tuna sandwich (we calculated that he must’ve eaten over 14,000 tuna sandwiches for lunch). He was completely unique. Somedays I still think he might walk through the front door. I’d be ready! Here’s to George Couris, the one and only. X

The Electric Company aired for the first time on October 25th, 1971. My childhood was full of shows with mind blowing imagination and creative daring. There was no mold. Every day was an acid trip of random hits of color, humor, and magical thinking. Go check out the DJ Stylings of Morgan Freeman as Mel Mounds or his Easy Reader and Dr. Delight. He was one of the original cast members on The Electric Company. It was a groovy and inventive way to grow up and I was glued to the b**b tube. 🌈🕺🏻⚡️🍄

One thing that is not plentiful on the road is decent coffee. Not so at The Hideaway. Every morning, home barista Daniel makes the most delicious coffee. Very grateful for the work and to be LIVE again, but it’s good to be home. ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️🤎

Las Vegas or bust! Traveling for work. “Happy to spend 9-days in Vegas” says anyone in events who has been virtual for an eternity. I do not want to go back to all virtual again. Fingers crossed.

These coffee cups are NY to me. They remind me of my dad and spending time in Greek diners, never telling the staff that he was Greek as he eavesdropped on all their customer bashing. The iconic cup, found in every coffee shop, Greek or not, reminds me of how much I love NY, my many trips and living there.
It’s energy is undeniable.

My dad and I stood on the roof of the WTC when I was around 12 years old. It was very windy, we had to hold on, but we laughed out loud at how awesome it was to be there, so high up and a view that made your eyes pop. It’s hard to believe 9/11 was 20 years ago. I cannot forget this day or the months that followed. Even the years. I thought we would never stop being sad. It was everywhere.

I love NY
I miss those we lost.
I miss the United States before 9/11.
20 years ago people rushed into a burning building of an epic scale - firemen, police, preachers and every day people. Maybe today we can recommit to WE the people and not ME the people.
