Base Case:

Somewhere, somehow, sometime in our past, some thing becomes chic. People notice and celebrate the chicness of the thing. The chic becomes a look. Eventually people tire of the look and the thing is no longer chic. Recursive Case:

Somewhere, somehow, sometime later, someone re-discovers the thing. The re-discovery is an inspiration for a re-interpretation of the previous chicness of the thing. People notice and celebrate this re-interpretation of the thing and it becomes chic in a new way. This new chic becomes a look. The process repeats...
