I just spent the week getting my cottage ready for the upcoming season! As part of my preparations, I hung these two beautiful stained-glass windows in our living room! I also will be adding a separate deck next to our artist studio for our new lounging chairs!

Thank you so much to all of our guests who chose to spend some time at our cottage this season. We had a wonderful time being your host!

It's hard to believe that we are at the end of the 2023 season. We just spent a week doing some improvements and then tucked our cottage in for the winter. While there the weather was pretty mild, so my hydrangeas were still in bloom ... so beautiful with our ocean backdrop!

To all our friends, thank you for your concern about our cottage as hurricane Lee closely passes by ... luckily its path has moved more to the east. We are weathering the storm very well so far ... winds are gusting in the low 30's right now. During past winter storms the gusts have been clocked at 90 mph with no damage! Our 100-year-old cottage has survived a lot of storms in its history and probably will also survive this one! It's a special place that I love and worry about ... I'm looking forward to Sunday when it has passed by!

I have been told by some of my guests that my cottage looks like it was decorated by Martha Stewart! What a compliment! Others think so too ... in 2020 we were chosen by TRIPS TO DISCOVER as one of Maine's 19 Stunning Oceanfront Vacation Rentals! Lubec Bay Cottage is one of the original vacation homes in Lubec (this will be our 15th summer) and for all of our 123 reviews we have received 5 stars because our guests love our cottage, how clean and well-appointed it is, and all the special amenities and comforts we provide because we care so much about your enjoying your stay.

And then there's the view! Oh my ... you'll have to see it in person to appreciate it! Imagine looking out over a 3-acre field of wildflowers towards the Bay of Fundy! And being the first to see the sun rise!

Taking care of my cottage is definitely a labor of love! I just spent 5 beautiful (and exhausting) days preparing LBC for the upcoming season! A few more improvements this year - we redecorated our dining room with new chairs, table, and rug; added a very comfortable set of reclining chairs to our deck; and placed a foot-soothing outdoor rug to our balcony! I also planted two more hydrangeas to beautify our garden ... I love hydrangeas!

Yesterday I took some photos and posted them on our website: http://www.lubecbaycottage.com . We do have some openings in May and June, which is when our flowering trees, lilacs, and lupine are blooming and all of Lubec is coming alive!

I hope you get the chance to visit Lubec someday!

Stephen and I had a good day yesterday, but it was a long one. Up at 4:30 a.m. so we could get on the road to Lubec and arrive with enough time to get done all we wanted to get done at the cottage and then get home at a reasonable hour, which ended up being around 12 midnight! It was a beautiful day - the view was spectacular! We'll have some new items added this year - new patio furniture and a re-designed dining room for our guests to enjoy! We've added some convenient phone charging stations and all new smoke and CO detectors to keep our guests safe.
It's going to be a great season - we can't wait for it to begin and hope we get the chance to be your hosts this summer!

This magical lighthouse is located in the bay to the far left of our cottage! You can hear the fog horn in the distance ... so soothing.

Lubec Channel Lighthouse, Lubec Channel, Maine.

The land mass in the distance is Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, Canada, and the midground land mass is West Quoddy Head. West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is just out of sight off to the right.

When the tide is low, it is possible to walk out on the mud flats and get pretty close to the lighthouse.

Just be careful! The tides are fast coming in and there are places where the mud is softer than other places and will suck the shoes off your feet, as well as trip you and cause you to crash into the mud with your camera being ruined as a result. Take my word on that.

It's National Hummingbird Day! We hope you love hummingbirds as much as we do. Did you know that most of the eastern U.S. is home to only one hummingbird species--the ruby-throated hummingbird--but 14 other species reside in the western U.S. and 8 other species have been observed as vagrants from their normal range. You can help hummingbirds around your home by promoting wildflowers in fields and forest edges, and by planting native wildflower gardens in your yard. If you choose to hang a hummingbird feeder at your house, we recommend using a sugar-water solution in a ratio of slightly more than 1/4 cup of cane sugar dissolved in 1 cup of filtered water. Change out your hummer food every couple of days if you can, and be sure to take apart and thoroughly clean and rinse your feeder every time you change the sugar-water. We caught this pretty female in a mistnet in a regenerated clearcut at Moosehorn this summer. We quickly released her unharmed. Check out her amazing iridescent green feathers on her back. Despite their aggressive and feisty nature, they tend to be very docile when we release them (and not just because they are tired), and seem content to sit in our hands and observe us for a while.
