Had the incredible opportunity to visit the Maryland Center for History and Culture in Baltimore and dive into the past with Catherine Rogers Arthur, VP President of Collections & Chief Curator. She graciously shared the exquisite 18th-century miniature portrait of Anne (Anna) Rousby Fitzhugh, skillfully painted by Mr. Bell.

Anne's delicate watercolor on ivory, enclosed in glass within a charming blue velvet case, speaks volumes of her era's elegance. Gifted to the Maryland Center in 1965 by Mrs. John Peterson, the provenance of this piece adds an intriguing layer to its story.

Anne Rousby Fitzhugh (1727-1793), a figure of grace and significance, was wedded to John Rousby III and later to William Fitzhugh. Her legacy extends through her daughter, Elizabeth Rousby Plater of Sotterley.

As the present steward of Anne's home, holding this personal relic was nothing short of extraordinary. 🏡✨
