Need to know info if you're planning on floating the Pine River this summer while staying at the Hawks Nest. We have 2 kayaks at the cabin for you to use but you may need a permit. If you don't want to deal with the logistics, Pine River Paddlesports Center is a great option.

We are continuing our series for paddlers who own their own canoe or kayak!
Did you know that if you bring your own boat to certain sections of the Pine that you are responsible for purchasing a watercraft permit for the river? Even though the permit requirement has been in place since the 1970's, many people are still unaware of it or don't completely understand how it works. Permits are required from the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend to the Monday of Labor Day weekend and from Elm Flats to Low Bridge.

The slopes are open! The Hawks Nest Kabin is located just 29 minutes away from this great skiing destination. Imagine a great day of skiing and arriving back at the Hawks Nest to a warm fire and the steaming hot tub. We invite you to be our guest and enjoy all that winter in Northern Michigan has to offer.

Our regular season hours start this Wednesday 1/10 and night skiing is back! There is a major storm in the forecast starting tomorrow and more snow making temps this week! ❄️

Winter River trips are pretty amazing. You can use our kayaks or book a trip with Pine River Paddlesports Center . All this is only about 20 minutes from the Hawks Nest Kabin. Have questions about the logistics a river trip? Just ask and we will be happy to assist you.

Some exciting things have happened at the Hawk's Nest this week. We took a few days to put down new flooring in the front room since the other flooring wasn't holding up. We splurged a bit and updated the range as well in the kitchen. The last, and best news, the hawks are BACK!! We have seen both hawks in and out of the nest building it up for the spring. If you have a stay booked with us the next few months be sure to look up while you are outside to see them coming and going. If you don't have anything booked with us, we still have availability so be sure to check out our calendar on Air BNB, VRBO, or our website.

We have had several great days at the cabin exploring new trails. Cadillac Pathway Clam River Loop (3.5 miles) and Cadillac Pathway (5 miles). As a reward for our 8.5 miles hiked the last 2 days we had to hit the Candy Shop in Cadillac thanks to some recommendations from others who have stayed at the cabin.

It's been a great week at the Hawks Nest Kabin. The front exterior received a facelift and we were lucky to see 2 hawk babies with momma sitting nearby keeping watch. The nest looks a bit crowded but we have plenty of room in the cabin so be sure to book your summer getaway.
