I was on seal watch from 7 AM until 9:30 AM until Seal Rescue arrived.

Here at Hono Kai we are getting some of the burned out families and couples. Talking to them and hearing their stories of the loss of home, animals, and family members who never made it out is heartbreaking.

Their stories in no way align with what you hear on news coverages, and are in alignment with what is on social media for the most part.

It will be years before all this is a memory, albeit a nightmare. I also see a major realignment of the government here in the next elections. Natives and residents are up in arms about the lack of government involvement, as well as the lack of acceptance of responsibility for what happened.

Officials have not been to ground zero to see what is needed, and to talk to those inside the area who need the help. Governing from a distance seems to be the norm.

Maui is now welcoming visitors but we ask that you respect our natives and residents who are healing from our disaster. If you visit, please stay away from the damaged areas so rescue efforts can continue unhindered.

There is plenty to do and see, and our businesses need your support.

Hono Kai and Maalaea are safe from the fires on island. We do ask that visitors stay away from Maui for now. There are no visitor accommodations available and any currently available accomodations are being used for emergency personnel and responsible misplaced residents.

It is requested that if you feel the need to help, please visit one of the local banks who are handling donations. They will make sure it is distributed where needed.
