Unseasonably warm weather last winter forced them to cancel the 2024 races, much to the disappointment of the 64 mushers from around the country and Canada who had signed up, not to mention the Fort Kent-area businesses that are supported by racers and fans.

Good morning! Today, several volunteers from Van Buren of will be hosting friends from the Maine Downtown Center as part our 'site visit' to reclaim our place as a 'Main Street Affiliate' community.

Becoming a Maine Downtown Center 'Main Street Affiliate' allows Van Buren to access resources, expertise, and networking opportunities that support downtown revitalization. This designation strengthens community-driven efforts by fostering economic development, historic preservation, and creative placemaking. It provides tools to attract businesses, enhance cultural heritage, and improve quality of life while aligning with state and national best practices. The affiliate status also boosts visibility, helping secure grants and partnerships critical for transformative projects like the Community Garden, the Connectivity HUB, and Music on Main. This recognition underscores Van Buren's commitment to building a vibrant, resilient, and sustainable downtown.
