“An Evening with Amer Zahr: Being Arab in America” is a free, but ticketed event taking place in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union on February 2nd at 7:00 pm. Tickets are free and will be available for reservation on 01/27/2025. For the ticket link and more information click the link in our bio!

The WUD Distinguished Lecture Series is exited to welcome Amer Zahr, who will discuss his experience of growing up as a Palestinian-American. Zahr will also further explore comedy as a form of activism, and how he navigates his identity as an Arab in America.

The Politics of Food Systems Transformation

The event is free and open to the public. Please spread the word. We also plan to live cast and post a recording but hope you can join us in person.

Dr. Danielle Resnick will give an address on the Politics of Food Systems Transformation at the Wisconsin Historical Society auditorium on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024 at 7:00pm. She is a Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Brookings Institution. Her key research areas include the political economy of agricultural policy and food systems, decentralization, urban governance, informality, and democratization.

This event celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems, founded by Wisconsin farmers, environmentalists, faculty, staff and students.

The Wisconsin Union Directorate Distinguished Lecture Series and the McBurney Disability Resource Center are excited to welcome acclaimed Deaf dancer, choreographer, and advocate Antoine Hunter (aka PurpleFireCrow), who will visit UW–Madison.

”An Evening with Antoine Hunter,” will be in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union on October 7 from 6:30 - 8:00p.m. Hunter and accompanying dancers will start with a stunning dance performance followed by a 30-minute lecture on stage and finally, a Q&A session with questions from the audience.

Hunter’s personal experience as a Black, Indigenous, Deaf, and Disabled dancer and choreographer inspired Hunter to establish the Urban Jazz Dance Company, a San Francisco-based company that creates opportunities for Deaf and Disabled artists from marginalized backgrounds.

Our kickoff meeting will be Wednesday, Sep 19th at 6pm in Memorial Union, Langdon Room (4th floor). Subsequent meetings will continue to be every Wednesday at 6pm at Memorial Union (Check TITU for the room!).

Thanks to all everyone who came out to our Q&A with It was enlightening to hear his intellectual views on propaganda, fascism, language, and how they all shape our current culture. We also wanted to shout out Prof. Mary McCoy for an amazing job moderating and the audience for their incredibly thoughtful questions. We're truly appreciative for Dr. Jason Stanley's thought-provoking insights and exuberant presence!
