City of Rocks got a little snow over the weekend but it should be mostly melted off today and tomorrow as it warms up. Pictures are today, Wed, May 8. Road is getting graded and Mag solution applied now so it will be smooth and dust free. Should be a beautiful weekend!

Castle Rocks Loop Trail is our favorite trail in the parks. It is almost snow free. South side has a lot of water running but will dry out in the next week or 2. It's a great hike or Bike ride!

Two Rock Turtles is a great wall with several climbs rated Easy 5th Class. Perfect for new or young climbers. The problem is getting to it. There is a granite chute you have to climb up but it's not marked and easy to walk by. Here is map of the trail and some pics of the chute you have to scramble up. Trail is clear today with a few snow drifts you can walk around.

Should be nice weather this weekend! City of Rocks road and climbing update. April 8, 2024. Road is good to Bathrock. Still blocked above Bathrock. Hiked the loop around Flaming Rock today. (attached pics). Still 80% snow covered. Will get very difficult as the snow softens this week. 6" to 18" snow still. Once you reach the bottom of Flaming Rock the trails are mostly clear on the South facing slope to Transformer. Stick to sunny faces for climbing. This week will melt alot of snow. Most campsites below Bathrock are melted off. Castles should be almost completely melted off except for the most shaded spots.

City of Rocks road report- What a difference 2 weeks makes. Road to Bathrock is decent and passable for all vehicles. Lower camp sites have mostly melted off around practice Rock. Elephant rock parking is clear. Road still closed past Bathrock. Circle creek overlook is still closed. Castle Rocks is mostly melted off. Most climbing is accessible. Starting the 1st or 2nd of April the weather should warm up and snow is melting fast. City of Rocks RV opens April 1st and now has power at all tent sites.

Road report for City of Rocks and Castle Rocks.
Castles parking lots are accessible with all vehicles. Bring snow or mud boots to hike to the climbs facing the sun. The next week will melt alot of snow and dry things out.
City of Rocks is a no go. Roads are deeply rutted and get worse the higher you go. No campsites or parking are accessible and there are no turn arounds until (if) you get to Bathrock. 4x4 high clearance vehicles only and you could still get stuck. It will get worse with the warm weather before it gets better. I'll update in a week.

Bathrock parking lot 4/30/23. The road is clear to the top of Breadloaves. Still huge drifts block the road. Should be getting opened up in the next few days. Upper camp spots may be wet or have snow still. We had several campers in City of Rocks RV and City of Rocks Retreat that couldnt camp in their reserved site in the park or at Smoky Mtn campground due to no water.
Look us up and reserve a tent or rv site or one of our Airbnb stays.

There is an air quality sensor in Almo. Click on the little yellow square in Idaho near the borders with NV and UT. Good to know during fire season.

Exciting new area that's never been open to the public. This will connect the City of Rocks to the Castle Rocks in the future via bike or hiking trail. An old jeep road used to run from Indian Grove down Graham canyon and out to Almo. This will be a single track trail.
The National Park Service has acquired 105 acres of land, and the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation purchased 260 acres, all land that had previously been privately owned and had limited access for use.

Almo is a winter wonderland this morning. Snowshoeing will be awesome with all the fresh snow; just be careful on the slippery roads. You can rent snowshoes for the whole family from the Visitor Center.

Top of City of Rocks May 10th. This is the road to sites 60-63. Sites at breadloaves are walk in only. You get within a couple hundred yards at the parking area. Road to Logger springs and sites are still not cleared. You will have to walk in a couple hundred yards as well. All other sites should be clear and snow free. City of Rocks RV is open and has tent sites with level pads, poles for shade or hammocks, wind fences, bathroom access and water.
