Now that the Snow Storm of the Century is past...we know that many folks travel plans were severely impacted. I had customers that were unable to depart for Cancun this week for a long planned vacation. This week wasn't all cancelations....I actually booked two ladies on a cruise from New Orleans departing in February 2026 (yes 1 year from now) on a 14 Day cruise sailing down to South America with port visits including Panama Canal Zone, Costa Rica, Columbia, Honduras, Mexico, Belize, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman. They are very excited and counting down the days.

TSA will begin implementation of the Real ID Law this coming summer. A regular drivers license will no longer be enough to fly with. A Passport is the best option, which is simple to apply for and valid for 10 years. A Military ID or Retired Military ID will also put you in compliance. If you are up for a Driver License renewal soon, contact your DMV for details on the Real ID availability. Safe travels.

According to a final rule published by the TSA, federal agencies will begin enforcing REAL ID requirements starting this spring.

If you cruise from the Port of New Orleans you will always pass this facility just south of the Algiers Point. It's the Dominos Sugar Refinery, constructed between 1905-1909. Early on it produced 3 Million Pounds of Sugar per day, that was increased to 7 Million Pounds of Sugar by the early 1970's.
Fun Fact: Over 5 Million Bricks were used in the construction.
During WW 2, workers employed here were considered "essential to the war effort" and were not drafted. Some German POW's were allowed to work there during their internment. Louisiana held nearly 20,000 German POW's in multiple camps around the state.
So, next time you are departing from the Port of New Orleans, take a look off the Port Side (that's the Left side of the Ship) and see a bit of history.

While most of this area prepares for some serious winter weather this weekend, I had 2 couples that went to MSY this morning and were headed to Miami to board the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas for a fun filled long weekend.
