Our second tour to Asheville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg for Christmas at Biltmore was another hit! πOur itinerary was packed with the same wonderful activities and places but in reverse order making the Biltmore experience our final destination. This trip was filled with beautiful ladies many of whom were traveling with their girlfriends, sister(s) or mother for a holiday getaway and a few gents too. Our motorcoach was filled with laughter, reindeer games with gifts and prizes and so much fun. And letβs not forget the ugly Christmas sweater contest! To all the delightful Treasured Travelers, many of whom were Newbies, thanks for creating memories and having fun with Bayouland Tours!
On the road again πΆ Chattanooga bound for first night then on to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Asheville for Christmas at Biltmore! π

Last week, we kicked off our holiday season with a trip to Asheville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg! πOur first stop in Asheville was a visit to the historic Grove Park Inn for a gourmet lunch in the Blue Ridge Restaurant and then a stroll to view the International Gingerbread Competition pieces. The creativity and detail of these pieces is extraordinary. The photos donβt do justice! Staying at The Village Hotel on Biltmore Estate was a wonderful experience and put us in the middle of activity between Antler Hill Village and The Winery. While in Asheville, we enjoyed dinner and a folk & bluegrass band at the Black Mountain Opry. And, we explored the city on a morning sightseeing tour with a local guide. The Biltmore Mansion in all its Christmas finery was something to behold! A group dinner at the Stable Cafeβ was followed by a candlelight tour of the mansion. The next morning, we returned to the mansion grounds for strolling, shopping and lunch before heading to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. In Pigeon Forge, we enjoyed dinner at the iconic Applewood Farmhouse Grill and were entertained at the Country Tonite show full of old country favorites, some gospel, modern hits and a tickle of the funny bone. We began the next day with a local guide who lead us on The Life of Dolly Tour. It was so interesting seeing the sights and hearing stories of Dollyβs family and her childhood. After spending some time on The Island in Pigeon Forge for lunch, we made our way to Dollywoodβs Smoky Mountain Christmas for an afternoon and evening of shows, a train ride, dinner and fun! Our local guide joined us again for our last day in the Smoky Mountains where we took an informative drive through the mountains. Then, lunch and shopping time in downtown Gatlinburg before i look beginning our journey home. In Chattanooga, we had a tasty farewell dinner and delighted in the music of The Briars with a private performance and ended the night with some reindeer games. There was lots of laughter, more reindeer games with gifts and prizes and the ugly Christmas sweater contest on this tour! Thanks to all the great Treasured Travelers who made this a fabulous, fun-filled trip full of memories!

Weβve kicked off our holiday season with Christmas at the Biltmore! It was a chilly 17Β° this morning in Asheville. Heading west to Tennessee where it should be a little bit warmer.
Thanksgiving is just one more day to say traveling with you has always been so wonderful. We are grateful for our Treasured Travelers! π§‘π€

What an amazing journey through American West! An adventure βοΈchecked off many Bucket Lists. We began in Salt Lake City with the opportunity to watch and listen while the magnificent Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsed for their Sunday performance. It was so moving! Then, we made our way to Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons. A float trip down the Snake River provided some stunning views as did our time at Jackson Lake Lodge for lunch. We entered Yellowstone on this day and experienced the Lower Geyer Basin including Old Faithful and the Artists Painted Pots. What a sight! Our tour continued the next day through Yellowstone and included the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone (Upper & Lower Falls), Canyon Village and Yellowstone Lake. The biggest surprise this day??? A storm of BB sized hail that made it look like winter! We said goodbye to Yellowstone and made our way to Cody, WY where we enjoyed a chuckwagon dinner & the show at Cody Cattle Company before heading to Stampede Park and the Cody Night Rodeo. It was the first rodeo for many in our group! And a few even climbed on Norman the Bull for a fantastic photo op! We visited the fascinating Buffalo Bill Center of the West and over the next few days, Sheridan and Keystoneβ¦ experienced Little Bighorn National Park through the eyes and illustrations of our Native American guide, Olivia Roseβ¦ went to Devils Tower and attended the Illumination Lighting Ceremony at Mt. Rushmore in the evening. A few Veterans from our group participated in the flag retirement ceremony. Talk about awe-inspiring! Our stay at K Bar S Lodge for two nights was exceptional and provided an extraordinary view of George. We returned to Mt Rushmore in the morning light before making our way to Crazy Horse Monument. Had an adventurous afternoon at Custer State Park with lunch at the State Game Lodge and a Buffalo Jeep Safari excursion where we saw hundreds of Buffalo! So many Motherβs and their βcinnamonsβ were a sight to behold. We ended our tour with a visit to Badlands National Park, the famous Wall Drug and the unique Corn Palace. We were fortunate to have had an exceptional Local Tour Guide with 20+ years of experience in Wyoming and South Dakota. He poured into us interesting facts, history, geology lessons and much more. This tour was packed with the sights and sounds of The American West and a great group of Treasured Travelers. Thanks to all who traveled with us!

There were lots of shenanigans including reindeer races, white elephant gift exchange, Santaβs βelf on the busβ delivering shiny gifts, ugly Christmas Sweater Day and drawings for souvenir prizes from our trip. Arkansas⦠with a Christmas Surprise! Part 3
After our Mystery Day in Branson and seeing The Miracle of Christmas at Sight & Sound Theatre, we returned to Bentonville. We visited Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art where you could tour the Bachman-Wilson House (a Frank Lloyd Wright house relocated here), see one of the temporary exhibits - βFashioning America-Grit to Glamourβ or βWe the People: The Radical Notion of Democracyβ, and the permanent art collection. Fascinating place! We said goodbye to Bentonville and made our way to Rogers for lunch and a little strolling downtown and also a visit to the Daisy Airgun Museum. We also saw the worldβs largest BB Gun! We left Rogers and continued our journey through Arkansas by visiting Eureka Springs. We were entertained by husband and wife duo of Sean-Paul Niemiec and Juliana Fay at the Intrigue Theatre. All were mesmerized by illusions, intrigue and magic! We even got to take part in some of their mysterious and logic-defying moments. After the show, we had a wonderful dinner at the gorgeous and historic Basin Park Hotel where we learned more about Eureka Springs from local historian, Bill Ott. The next day, we were joined by Joe Gunnels as were toured the Great Passion Play area, the Christ of the Ozarks Statue, Thorncrown Chapel and historic downtown. After lunch on our own, we hit the road to begin our journey home with an overnight stop in North Little Rock. Our last dinner on the road was at the personal home of local and renowned landscaper architect and designer Chris H Olsen, The Edgemont House. What a way to end our holiday trip on Christmas high note!! While there, we also played our White Elephant gift exchange where a few shenanigans ensued. One of Santaβs Elves also visited the Bayouland motorcoach and left a shiny surprise for everyone! π
Weβre home now with visions of an Arkansas Christmas dancing in our heads! What a fabulous group of Treasured Travelers we had on this tripβ¦ but truth be told ALL of our Treasured Travelers are fabulous! Thanks to ALL who joined me on this tour. ππ𧳠Bus Travel Rocks!!

Arkansasβ¦ with a Christmas Surpriseβ¦ Mystery Revealed TODAY!! Clues in the form of riddles have been dropped the last few days and itβs been a lot of fun for me hearing all the guesses and getting lots of questions!

When Iβve got my act together, youβll find in fact, itβs all a juggling act and Iβll surely act differently tomorrow. Where am I?
They would come to the city their taxes to pay and the Kingβs law law to obey. Where did they go?
I was snug in the hay while gifts were brought my way by a star so bright it was all just right. Who am I?
We are touring The Natural State, ARKANSAS! Making our way through Texarkana, Fort Smith, Bentonville, Rogers, Eureka Springs, and Little Rock. And a Mystery Day in between! Hereβs a sampling of the fun weβre having so far. Our first stop was Fort Smith at Miss Lauraβs Visitor Center. A house on the National Historic Register that served as a former brothel! Then, we made our way to the Fort Smith History Museum which was established in 1910 with the purpose of saving the cityβs oldest building from demolition. The building is now restored and a part of the Fort Smith National Historic Site.
Later, we had special access to the US Marshalβs Museum that is currently closed and undergoing a major renovation and expansion. We learned a little bit about the history of the US Marshalβs Service, got a sneak peek at the experiences and exhibits currently under construction and were treated to show & tell by the museum curator with some interesting artifacts. Later, we enjoyed a catered dinner by Jerry Neelβs BBQ and a shoot-out by the Indian Territory Pistoliers. The next day, we made our to Bentonville where we were greeted by Lindsay from Visit Bentonville as she hopped on the bus and gave us a brief tour of downtown Bentonville before we headed to Walmart Heritage Lab Museum. We were lucky enough to be the first tour group to visit this satellite location and see new brand exhibits plus the coolest AI/hologram of Sam Walton! Itβs an interactive experience where the technician and guests can ask questions and Sam gives a response. It really feels like youβre having a conversation with him! Theyβre gone to great lengths to ensure all of his responses were phases, stories, and actual answers to questions he had been asked using archival audio and video footage. Lunch was at the 50βs era playground called Simple Pleasures! A true trip down memory lane for a lot of our Treasured Travelers. After lunch, we visited the Mildred B Cooper Memorial Chapel. What a magnificent and peaceful place! Later, we enjoyed some βon your ownβ time for shopping and exploring downtown Bentonville. After a delicious dinner at Tavola Trattoria, we visited the Square for a photo op. More adventures ahead!!
Where are you this beautiful Sunday afternoon after Thanksgiving?? Weβre on our way to explore The Natural Stateβ¦ Arkansas! First stop was lunch and a stroll on Riverfront Street in Natchitoches. Looking forward to a week of travel, fun, surprises, probably a little a Christmas shopping and definitely a few reindeer games!!

Note: I (Rhon) took part in a Behind the Scenes of The Grand Hotel Talk and Tour by Grand Historian, Bob Tagatz. This is just one of several lectures offered. The tour was super cool with lots of information and included a tour of kitchen facilities as well. Our group went through the kitchen just as the pastry kitchen was preparing their most famous dessert - The Pecan Ball. Lots of the special plates with chocolate sauce on the racks. Yum! A couple of the most facts I learned⦠1) on a busy day of peak season, the kitchen puts out 3400 meals; 2) the beautiful chandelier that adorns the dance floor In the Terrace Room was purchased for $40 after being rescued from a dumpster in New York City!
