Mont Saint-Michel and tides.

Same day, different hour.
The first picture was at around 4:30 pm on July 17th, the second one at 8:30 pm, same day!

Every location on earth experiences two high tides and two low tides. Since the gravity of the moon causes the bulges in the ocean, it takes 24 hours and 50 minutes for the bulges to make their way around the world. Since there are two bulges, there are two high tides and two low tides per 24-hour and 50-minute period. Thus, high tide occurs every 12 hours and 25 minutes. This is why the high and low tides do not occur at the same time each day.

I really loved Saint Malo, where the ramparts stand proudly above its beaches and its port.
I enjoyed seeing the low tide, and even put my feet in the ocean (the water was so cold!).

Enjoying la vie in Honfleur, Normandie.

Did you know that:
- In 1608, an expedition left Honfleur to colonise Canada organised by Samuel de Champlain led to the founding of the Canadian city Quebec.

- Honfleur is home to the largest wooden church in France – St Catherines!

Really cute little town. The weather was nice, sometimes hot in the sun, sometimes rainy and cloudy.

Finally, after 7 years of living in the Big Apple, I experienced it.

Manhattanhenge

For Stonehenge, the special day is the summer solstice, when the Sun rises in perfect alignment with several of the stones, signaling the change of season.

For Manhattan, a place where evening matters more than morning, that special day comes twice a year, when the setting Sun aligns precisely with the Manhattan street grid, creating a radiant glow of light across Manhattan's brick and steel canyons, simultaneously illuminating both the north and south sides of every cross street of the borough's grid.

A rare and beautiful sight, don't you think?

One of the best experiences in France, near Paris, in Versailles. This place is already very beautiful during the day, but at night it becomes something out of imagination. The garden is purely breathtaking, with the flowers and jeux d'eau really unforgettable. The world's biggest intersection: Shibuya, Tokyo. On average, over 2.4 million people cross Shibuya every day, roughly 2,500 pedestrians on every crossing (the day I went there were not so many people!) @japan_walker_ ko' was added later. Hachikō used to accompany his owner to the Shibuya train station every morning. Ueno was Professor at the University of Tokyo, and every afternoon he would happily wait for his owner at the same spot. After Ueno's death in 1925, Hachi was given away but he kept running back to the now-famous spot where he used to meet his owner every day. In 2009, the film Hachi: A Dog’s Tale starring Richard Gere brought the story to the masses around the world. Unfortunately, the film was set in the US which detracts from its cultural significance. You're better off watching the original 1987 film, Hachiko Monogatari, to get a more authentic feel for Hachiko's life and times. I've been a dog lover my whole life. I've loved without measure my Skip and Hachikō's story gives me even more strength to believe that animals have a soul. In Japan, the Shrine is the center of Shinto religion. They are called “jinja” in Japanese. Pass through the torii, a large gate that marks the entrance to every such shrine, and pray before the main hall to ask the kami (Shinto deities) for a wish and their blessing. A dream come true: The Lord of the Rings live performance of the entire score by Howard Shore of The Fellowship of the Ring. Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine performed amazingly. Only those who truly know me have knowledge of my obsession with everything Tolkien, and I've been listening to the three movies entire soundtracks for years! I was beyond happy tonight.
