Dolphins love us almost as much as we love them. There were at least 5 surfing the bow wave this evening. Such a wonderful thing to share with our guests!

This was Captain Kim’s attempt to replicate former Rover legends, Captains Brian and Billy’s knack of framing the sun setting through the fresnel lens of the Roanoke Island Lighthouse. I eventually got it thanks to one of our guest’s excellent photographic expertise but in doing so I think I fried my retinas trying to get it just right. Kids don’t try this at home. Get your parents too instead!

Please join us today as Manteo celebrates the life of Carl Jordan, a beloved friend who served as the town's waterfront dockmaster for 18 years. Carl, 75, passed away on June 28.

Friends and family plan to meet on the waterfront boardwalk (see map below) at 4 p.m. for a service and at Poor Richard's Sandwich Shop, 305 Queen Elizabeth Ave., afterward to share drinks and memories of Carl.

These are scud clouds captured in South Carolina!

SCUD clouds may look like funnel clouds, but they actually form much differently. They form in areas of increased relative humidity as air rises in a thunderstorm. The term SCUD is actually an acronym standing for “Scattered Cumulus Under Deck”.

While they look ominous, SCUD clouds are harmless and do not produce severe weather.
