Established in 1938, the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge stretches over 5,800 acres along the NC-12 highway. Serving as a sanctuary for migratory birds and a plethora of wildlife, this refuge is critical to preserving the Outer Banks coast and its natural beauty.

Happy Amelia Earhart Day! Today, we honor her courage, determination and adventurous spirit. Born in 1897, she was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She paved the way for women to become aviators, and still inspires many pilots today!

Opened in 2019, the Marc Basnight Bridge measures at 2.8 miles long. It carries the NC-12 highway across Oregon Inlet between Bodie Island and Hatteras Island. A piece of the old Herbert C. Bonner bridge is now used as a fishing pier! Come check it out with an OBXA air tour. .pilot

Can you spot the lighthouse? Built in 1872, the Bodie Island Lighthouse is a beautiful piece of Outer Banks history. It stands at 156 feet tall and is known for its horizontal black and white stripes. The current structure is one of only a handful of brick tower lighthouses that remain in operation in the United States.

Check out this awesome picture of a SpaceX Starlink satellite launch, taken this past weekend on the ramp at KMQI. The rocket departed from the Kennedy Space Center (over 500 miles from the OBX) and carried 54 satellites into space in just 15 minutes! Truly remarkable stuff!!
