Tillamook Coast Visitors Association (TCVA) has funded the installation of hearing loops at two locations in Tillamook County: the visitors center desk at the Tillamook Creamery , and the front desk at the Tillamook Air Museum . Tillamook Creamery has also purchased an additional three hearing loops for their retail, ice cream and café areas.

“These two locations were excellent choices for TCVA to introduce this technology in Tillamook County,” said Dan Haag, TCVA's Director of Trails, Outdoor Recreation, and Accessibility. “Both buildings have large, wide open spaces where people with hearing issues can feel lost in the hustle and bustle of big crowds and noise. We are extremely grateful to the Air Museum and the Creamery for supporting this accessibility initiative.”

The hearing loops are an assistive technology that allows people with hearing aids and cochlear implants to better hear and understand one-on-one conversations and instructions. The technology has been used around Oregon at hotel front desks, performing arts centers, airports and other attractions where there can be a lot of disruptive and overwhelming background noise.

Visiting the area? Check local rules and restrictions of the coastal community you are staying in, BEFORE lighting off fireworks 💥

06/29/2024

It's and it's time for a reminder on fireworks.

The 4th of July is a great time to celebrate our nation. But please remember fireworks are not allowed on beaches, in state parks, at campgrounds and several other places. Learning about fireworks safety can help prevent accidents and a fire.

Under Oregon law, officials may seize fireworks, and you may be charged with a class B misdemeanor, which could result in a fine of up to $2,500 per violation and a civil penalty of up to $500.

On top of that, fireworks debris can have damaging effects on our beaches and cause lasting harm to the delicate ecosystems that call the beach home. And, dry beach grass always presents a chance for wildfires to spread 🔥

Consider taking in one of the controlled fireworks displays along the coast. Click this link to find locations: https://oregoncoastweekend.com/where-to-see-4th-july-fireworks-oregon-coast/

If you are looking for a way to help out after the celebrations conclude, SOLVE is holding post-4th of July cleanups in Manzanita, Pacific City, and Neskowin. Click this link to register: https://volunteer.solveoregon.org/post-4th 💪

Enjoy the 4th and please celebrate responsibly! :) 🇺🇸

Listen up folks- Florida experienced 6 fatal drownings in just two days due to the danger of rip currents. (The National Weather Service lists 16 known deaths so far in 2024) We are no stranger to the same powerful currents here on our beaches! With warmer weather and more visitors to our area, here comes an important reminder:

Rip currents are strong currents of water that rush out to sea. They are more robust than even the best swimmer. Rip currents can form on any beach that has breaking waves. If you look closely, you can see a rip current. It will have dark muddy water and be very choppy. You might see foam and other debris floating out to sea. If you see a rip current, stay away! They are very dangerous.

If you are ever caught in a rip current, don’t panic. Relax, and swim parallel to the beach. Don’t try to fight it. If you have trouble swimming, tread water and call for help. Parents! Keep your kids nearby when they’re playing near the ocean.

If you're headed to the beach on Sunday, please be mindful of sneaker waves. Sneaker waves can suddenly sweep people into the ocean, even on a calm day.

Don't turn your back to the ocean.

Manzanita Parade Posters Go on Sale

2024 Theme: “Soar Fourth”

Commemorative posters for this year’s Fourth of July parade in Manzanita are on sale at the Manzanita Visitor Center!

The 2024 posters will cost $30 each. Proceeds from the sale help fund the parade itself, including prizes, signs, supplies, and trash pickup. Copies of several previous years’ collectible posters are also available for $20 each.

The 2024 posters can be purchased by credit card through the “Donate” button on the parade website, or by check or cash at the Visitor Center.

The Center is located at 31 Laneda Ave. It is open Thursdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Mondays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Local artist Lori Dillon created the poster. “I was both honored and a little intimidated to be asked again,” she said. “I learned a lot doing last year’s poster and had a few ideas floating around in my head for this year’s work."

Building on the 2024 parade theme “Soar Fourth,” the poster’s prominent feature is a seagull soaring high above Manzanita Beach. “Other soaring objects include kites, balloons, a pinwheel, a rocket and, of course, an American flag - or two,” said Dillon. “I think the spirit of the parade is captured by a figure I included centered at the bottom of the poster,” she added.

Information about the July 4th parade, including the required online registration for participants, can be found at the parade’s official website – https://www.manzanitaparade.com/. Also included are parade guidelines, volunteer opportunities, the parade route, and much more.

Manzanita’s Fourth of July parade starts at 1:00 p.m. at the corner of Laneda Avenue and Division Street. The traditional, small-town celebration has been a highlight of the summer season for several years.

Copies of the 2024 poster will also be on sale at the Manzanita Farmers Markets on Friday, June 21, and June 28. Artist Dillon will be on hand to personalize posters.
