Time 4 Music – Instructor Jean Kroll
I teach in my home studio - 1 mile west of Hwy 494 and S of Bass Lake Road. I have an extensive musical background in piano and voice. I studied music at Concordia College in Moorhead. I teach students from age 5–80. I have taken students from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. I am a member of the MMTA (Minnesota Music Teachers Association) and MNTA (Music
Teachers National Association). My philosophy and how I teach:
I want students to enjoy their time at the piano and lessons. My goal is to teach all children to play the piano to the best of their individual ability. To do this I gear lessons to suit each student and welcome information that helps determine what each student needs to reach their personal goals (which vary by student and family). Some want to ensure that one can sit down and play fun tunes while others may have more lofty goals. I am always willing to try something new to keep a student interested in lessons. Students are taught all theory and technique skills. Students learn sight reading, note recognition, interval reading, lead sheets and to play by ear and with proper rhythm by using an accompaniment CD. Theory/ear training lessons are taught on the computer in addition to the traditional theory and note speller books that accompany each lesson book. Students are given the opportunity for performance opportunities presented in a very positive fashion, so that performing becomes a joy rather than a dreaded experience. Lessons are enjoyable
I make lessons enjoyable by creating an environment in which the children learn to play well. There are fun activities, stickers, and amusing items at lessons. Show and Tell is welcome. Stuffed animals are commonly seen next to students during lessons. Students have the option to dance (any kind of movement) to music from around the world, different styles or eras of music, and will be introduced to many other instruments (some very unique) between some lessons as time allows. In addition, students receive a small token at the end of each lesson. Organization and Communication
I run my business as such and save the warm fuzzies for the students. I welcome questions anytime! Parents lesson reminders before lessons and feedback after lessons. This is a copy of an email I received from a parent of 2 of my students. Jean, I truly enjoy your professionalism. You approach your scheduling and billing with detail and yet are incredibly warm and encouraging with the children.
